I am a scope expert!

I've never heard of a fixed parallax scope set at 200 yards. 100 is the virtual standard, I've only ever seen 50 and 100.

A couple years ago, I was digging through all kinds of manufacturers' literature and technical specifications. I found the most common parallax pre-set to be 75 yards.

It all started with me trying to figure out what the pre-set was for one of my own scopes; and ended up with me trying to figure out what genius thought a 75 yard parallax was a good idea on a scope designed for long range shooting. This, of course, turned into "What other moronic companies are using super-short parallax settings on scopes where it doesn't make sense?" The answer: Pretty much all of them.

In the end, you have a single assumption made by many manufacturers:
Most people just shoot paper at 50 or 100 yards. Setting the parallax for distances greater than 100 yards may make people with poor technique (a large number of shooters) believe the scope is of poor quality.

75, eh? Well, I don't doubt you if it's based on their own literature. I'm pretty sure I've never had one set at 75 though. The majority of mine are adjustable though.
