Do you carry in the house? Do you carry in the shower? Do you carry in the crapper? Do you carry at the local PTA meeting? Do you carry at your favorite restaurant? Do you carry in Safeway? Do you carry on your riding lawn mower? Are we all a bunch of cowboys or what? Hysteria has consumed us all..Have a good night..If you can! :) :) Best, J. Parker

Believe it or not, there are actually people that think gun owners are paranoid by default, that there is no reason why anyone should own a firearm. Nahhh...

No I don't carry around the house or in the crapper, shower or garden shed. I do have one handy. I guess I don't live in a high crime district yet to be in a constant gun carry frenzy. As someone stated in another post right or wrong I carry when felt it is needed. When I leave my little valley I got something with me and it ain't my lunch :)
But then after tonight that could change ;)

Ever been a victim of a home invasion? Sexual assault? Ever defended your life from a predator even away from home? Ever been stalked? Ever worked in a profession where people tell you they are going to track you down later and kill you, or have their friends kill you, and they mean it?
Some people here have experienced these things, and maybe their concerns are viable considering their past or present experience.
Once you experience a home invasion, you don't quite feel as safe any more in your home.
I don't think it is fair to judge other people and tell them that they are hysterical or paranoid when you do not know their situation. Just because it is hysterical by YOUR standards, gives you no right to tell them that they are wrong. Maybe in their situation they are totally right.
Your situation is not their situation. For all we know they live in South Africa or a third world country where home invasions are common. Do you think everyone on these forums even lives in America, much less in a nice safe neighborhood? How arrogant to assume so. Why be so quick to judge?

Anti-gunners would tell us all that we are paranoid and hysterical for owning a gun at all, or for not trusting our government with all power.

If they don't want to own a gun, they can choose that for themselves and deal with it. But they damn well better not tell me that I can't own one or carry it.

If you don't want to carry a gun around the house, and you feel safe in your situation, then don't carry it. But, don't tell other people that they have crossed the line into hysteria just because they take measures that you choose not to. You have no idea what their situation is. Maybe in their situation it is perfectly reasonable.

Actually, yeah, I do. For the same reason I keep my wallet and keys in my pockets while I'm in the house, in the bathroom, at Safeway, etc.

That way I've GOT my gun if I need it. I don't have to go searching all over the house for it, trying to remember where I put it last. The same with the keys and wallet...

Hey, did you know that the chances of you having a house fire are only about 1 in 50 for your lifetime?

Why do you have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers? Why do you have fire insurance? You hysterically afraid of fire or something?

Similarly, your chances of being in a severe carwreck in your lifetime are something like 1 in 20.

Seatbelts? Airbags? Insurance? Road flares? Spare tire? Jumper cables? Cell phone?

What are you, some kind paranoid freak, constantly worried that you're going to get creamed on the highway? :)

Red Bull; I lived and worked in Alameda County in the SF bay area for 20 years. Was I concerned about my family or myself? Of course. Did I let it run my life? Absolutely not! God bless Col. Cooper. I think more of us should be in condition "mild" than in condition "kill". ") Best, J. Parker

J., I put it on in the morning, and take it off at night.

I have kids. I'm in and out of offices. Would you prefer I take it off now and then, leave it in my car where it can be stolen (and, if it was, then be called a dumb a$$ by some other TFL member), leave it accessible to a child or ignorant adult?

If you carry at all, you've probably considered these issues. Help me out ... I guess I'm not doing this right.

Or, are you one of those folks that only carries when you go to a 'bad part of town'?

I'm serious here. Seems to me, knowing nearly 100% of the time where my firearm is seems to be both wise and responsible. Think through your sarcasm, and tell me where I'm going wrong.

Regards from AZ

The most effective weapon is situational awareness. Always know what is going on around you, your home, and your neighborhood. I look out the windows alot. I'm always armed in the home with at least that. It's none of your business if I'm armed on the crapper. As for other times, you don't knock on my door and expect me to answer unarmed. (gun concealed behind American Rifleman Magazine) held there by my thumb.

NOTE TO SELF: If I were to become a bad guy......... I now know that J. Parker doesn't carry in his house, shower, crapper, PTA meetings, favorite restaurant, Safeway, doing his lawn. My job "IF" I were a bad guy or get a bunch of bad guys together is now much easier to get from you what we want.

Don't worry, I'm not one of the bad guys but just watch the news. Restaurant massacres, school shootings, murders happening at the victims homes. It happens and I bet some of those victims were thinking the same way you are. Just a thought. :)

Oh and one more thing. Just because you have a gun doesn't mean your safer from the evil world either......but it definetly could put the odds in your favor when the ca-ca hits the fan.

Hysteria is when you're outta control and Paranoid just means you have more of the facts. Just some of my rammblings.

Oh and that noise........ Don't worry about it. If you're at home you gotta be safe.....RIGHT? Well..... Right?

Jeff; If you need to carry as you do, by all means do. Of the some 6,500 members or so of TFL how many NEED to carry as you do? A very small percentage I'm sure. What happened before the concealed carry phenomenon swept the nation? (God bless Florida). We still went on with our lives. But now we have legal access to all these neat pistols. Nothing has really changed, we're just all packin' and waitin'. Best, J. Parker

Paranoid...heck yes. I have been the object of two attempted roberies, one mugging, one kidnaping, one carjacking and a couple of witness removals. The mugger was successful. Bein a bit paranoid has kept me alive and able to be paranoid. If I were as observent as Fud I would feel a lot better. I don't let it control my life but I shure as heck try to keep track of my circumstances and control what I can.

Sam...if it comes down to it, a large rock might do.

Ross; I don't "carry" in my house, how the hell does one "carry" in the shower?, I don't "carry" in the crapper, I don't attend PTA meetings :), I can't afford to eat out :), I don't "carry" in safeway, and I'm not in condition "kill" on my riding lawn mower. Beyond that, there's a gun "in" the house, a gun "in" the garage, a gun "in" the truck, a gun for fishing, a gun for camping, a gun for hiking, a gun for Mommy, a gun for Daddy, boy that's alot of guns. What does a one gun family do? J. Parker

With apologies to Dr. Seuss:

Hello, friend, my name is Harry.
And you bet your @ss I carry!
Every minute, every hour.
Yes, I carry in the shower.
You would think the gun would rust,
But in Gaston Glock I trust.
Then I clean the gun and oil it,
So I can carry in the toilet.
I don't mean to say you're dense,
But the issue's self-defense.
It's not anybody's fault
There's no schedules for assault,
And you don't know when a thug or
Two will come, perhaps a mugger,
Or a rapist or a thief,
All to bring your soul some grief.
You can call it paranoia,
But the bad guys will destroy ya.
So it's best to be prepared,
And uneven odds are squared,
When the vermin of the street,
Know that you are packing heat.

David that's great.

J. Parker, If I can't carry, I don't go. If that makes me paranoid, then fine, I'm paranoid. I've been carrying since I reached the age that the State of Indiana says is old enough to obtain a permit, and I will continue to carry whether you think it is hysteria, paranoia, or any other -ia you wish to dub it.
Eric

Personally, I treat guns the same way 17c nobles treated swords...a badge of rank (in my case, a badge of an American). The utility of these tools is only one aspect...the pleasure I get out of being armed is another.

"always" = every time; on every occasion; without exception; forever

I at least have my 'always' with me, and preferably something in a full-size, too.

Buy a holster and get some good training under their belt..... Then buy another gun and holster and training and so on, and so on, and so on....... :)

When you take your family out for a drive do you make your kids put on their seat belt? If you do, are you under hysteria that every time you start that ignition you will have a car accident? I don't think so. Do you let that fear take a hold of you and stop you from taking that trip? No! But you put on the belt just in case.

Do you have a fire extinguisher somewhere in the house? Near the kitchen? If you do are you under hysteria that every time you're in the house it will catch on fire? NO again. Heck if that was the case don't ever go in the house...... That's hysteria. If you do it "Just in case" that's being PREPARED.

Always go prepared, just in case :)

Needs are defined by wants. If you want the peace of mind that comes with being armed, then you need to be armed.
