Hypothetical - please respond

Well the only potential place in America that could get theoretically invaded is California, and they are welcome to that. :D :D

(Please don't take offense Californians, I was born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley, I've earned the right to mock :) )

Thankfully my wife has her own guns, but in keeping with this thread, I like the idea of hooking up with others, leaving half the guns behind for defense and taking the other half for offense and scavenging more at every chance.

As an able bodied male, this is one reason why we should all have M-16s, Saws, & m203s in our closets. I wish.

Thank you for all your replies. This was only a hypothetical and there are no correct answers. Each answered according to their conscience and no one should think the lesser of anyone for it.

Here's what brought about the question. An academian, Bellesiles, authored the book Arming America and attempts to dispel the myth of the armed American. He states that it was only after the Civil War and the Industrial Revolution were guns popularized in American Culture. See http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=40355 and an earlier thread on this same topic at: http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=39119

Somewhere he makes the assertion that when the militia was called up, many showed up unarmed. This raises the question, If guns were scarce and one was called to serve, would they bring their gun with them or leave it at home with their loved ones and hope to procure some weapon along the way? It is in this context which I attempted to pose the hypothetical.

What were the results? 25% elicted not to show up and leave their families. 5% would arrive with their weapons. 60% would arrived unarmed and with hopes of procuring a weapon along the way. 10% were not responsive (or at least I couldn't catergorize the response).

The important thing I find in this unscientific study is that most of us would not leave our family unarmed. If this is reflective of us as a people, consider how our forefathers responded when called upon in 1755 (French Indian War) or 1776. Assuming this to be accurate (remember this is junk science), it is little wonder that when a militia assembled it did so with the few guns Bellesiles points out.

As for myself, I'd leave the gun at home. My thanks to all who responded and as I've said before, since this is junk science, no one should think the lesser of anyone for their response.

First of all...I have enough "stuff" to pass around to the brave souls that decided to participate, yet lacked the foresight to arm themselves.

It happens all the time. In the little banana republics many people devolope an attitude when they see their loved ones being mistreated. Most of the time they lack the resources to prevent such little mishaps. When given the proper equipment to respond, the often become formidable with a bit of guidance.

Second, I would take the fight to THEM. I would fight in my house ,with my family ONLY as a last resort. One of the reasons we went to Europe and Japan in WW2 was for this very reason. You try your best to stop the s.o.b.'s BEFORE they get to your house, not after.

Thirdly, in todays political environment where the congress no longer responds to the needs of it's citizens but rather does what it can to adress the needs of the UN or other foreign governments, it is absolutley and totally STUPID to have just one weapon.

In short...my family would not be unarmed.
IF I had just ONE gun....I'm still gonna take it to the enemy.
I would pick up what I could off of the ground and supply my family with the free stuff. :)

Gary,
Interesting. a couple of things.
In the same vein, my son is in the National Guard and goes one weekend a month for duty. There are NEVER any arms duing these monthly meetings. I guess some future historian could stretch the evidence enough to say that todays National Guard is totally unarmed since there are no weapons at these meetings, and it's against the law for guardsmen to carry personal weapons.
The movie(yeah I know Hollywood) The Last of The Mohicans, where the local milita was called up, leaving the frontier unprotected comes to mind.
