Hunting with ATV's

I'm think that its not so much the ATV's that rip up the trails/bush. Its more the way the owners ride them. On the farm i ride one ALLLL the time and if i want to not rip up everything then i change the way i ride!!!

I do think that sometimes it spoils the hunt and the hard work of dragging or carrying things but if your older (not like me!!!) it can be a really helpful tool especially if it gives you a bit longer in life!!

I am considered disabled because I maimed my legs a few decades ago and cannot walk top far. Were it not for my Bombardier 800 (awesome machine), I would not be able to hunt at all. Also, I hunt with a guy that has no arms and legs. He hunts with hooks and prosthetic legs. And, just when you thought it was safe to go back into the woods, one other hunter is confined to a wheelchair and fires his crossbow and shotgun by sucking on a straw. We drag him up the hill in a special trailer we made for him.

If you can’t tell, we accept no excuse for not having fun in the woods! But if we didn’t have vehicles to carry our sorry butts around the mountain, we would be able to hunt.

Rifleman 1776, you took the words right out of my hands,

Tuzo, I have to disagree strongly with those test results. Just coming from California makes the study highly suspect.

California is the laughing stock of the U.S. "Lead ban" Condors eating gut piles full of lead bullets, pure B.S and junk science.Global warming pure B.S..10% sales tax pure socialism.Illegal Aliens getting everything they ask for, more socialism.Feinstein,Boxer,Moonbeam Brown,Nancy Pelosi,Voting Ballots in 27 languages.Trust Me I'm from the CA Government.

BLM study

The study I mentioned was conducted on BLM land in California by BLM personnel. If the study were conducted in Nevada or New York the results would have been similar.

BLM stated a rate of material displacement at 1/4 ton per mile traveled for a motorcycle offroad. A rooster tail or even a hen tail is not required for displacement to occur. Gentle driving will cause displacement due to pressure exerted by a tire on the contact surface. To visualize this amount take a cubic yard of moist sand weighing about one ton. A 1/4 ton of dry sand has a volume of about 6.75 cubic feet or the equivalent volume of 3+ bags at 2 cubic feet each of lawn soil at Home Depot.

After driving dirt bikes and ATVs in different terrains, I still prefer walking.

ATV Regs here in MN are very strict and need to be. There is very little more irritating than an ATV while hunting.
I hunt in a non-motorized area in CO and love having to never hear one. Yes it is a personal thing, but I prefer quiet.
One of my 1st experiences with atv's was when a family member brought one hunting and was going to help me pull a nice buck out of a swamp. well it didn't work, it broke down and we had to drag it out also. :(
