Hunting With Air Rifles

I shot plum through the head of a big groundhog at 15yds. I've killed a few squirrels as well. I shoot blackbirds once in awhile when they get pretty thick.

I have a friend who is rele into pellet guns and loves shooting pests so he found this dairy farm down the road that has a pigeon problem. we climbed into the loft of a barn thus blocking the only escape and sat there and shot 17 pigeons in about 5 minutes. The reason it took so long was that we were both laughing so hard from seeing all the dead pigeons we cudnt shoot strait!

Hey Darkgael,

Since we had that discussion I have discovered the 174 grain .45Slim slug, and shot my best 3 shot group off the stix at 50 yards with it (measured .45 inch center to center!). That is going to be my coyote slug.

Also, there could be another bigbore airgun hog hunt going on in April or May if you are interested. Check the hunts section of hardcorebigbore.com for info.

I've got a new Gamo Whisper which is both accurate and deadly. However, since it's probably illegal to use it in my neighborhood, I only shoot it at the range. :) However, I've heard there's a lady in the neighborhood who's taken out over a hundred Tree Rats with an air rifle.

In my neighborhood, tree rats are like the plaque.

This thread got me reading through all my old airgun books and before long i'm spending money:(

I've 2, .22 RWS air rifles, the 54 sidelever and the 350 break barrel. I had many issues with scopes that couldn't take the recoil but ended up with a bushnell banner 4x12x44 on one and a leapers 6x "bugbuster" illuminated on the other. Leapers mounts with both and i finally had 2 scopes that could take the "kick" without busting. Problem i found though, was the guns were too accurate for the fairly low power scopes on them. Couldn't see the squirrels eye at 35 yards to hit it.

So a new banner, 6x18x50 with appropriate mount, and a leapers 4x12x44 30mm illuminated with AO sidewheel and it's mounts are on their way.:)

Look very forward to messing with them once deer seasons out and squirrels are in..J.R.

There was a time when they were more powerful than any powder burning rifles on the market! Used a team of bearers to pump them, too...

That's amazing. I never knew you could kill anything bigger than a woodchuck with an airgun. How powerful can they get? How loud are they?

Peetza, you can buy a .50 or even a .60 call that will and has killed brown bears and elk as well as buffalo!
Lewis and Clark had some mean azz air guns on their trek...

That's amazing. 500ft/lb is about the same as a .357sig. All air powered. I never knew such a thing existed. You learn something everyday.

It is a thunder of air.. different than a powder charge but still very noticeable...
The neighbors will here it fine thru closed doors:D They charge off dive tanks...

Wow! Not quiet are they. Dropped that thing like a rock. I can't believe I've never heard of these things. I seriously thought Gamo was about the end-all be-all of air rifles.:o:eek:
