Hunting rifles

Most likely:

Rem700_3006.jpg

Remington 700 SPS in .30-06 with a Nikon 4.5-14x40mm BDC scope.

It's kind of overkill, though. I bought it and set it up for high desert hunting, but this year I'll be hunting in western Oregon, which is heavily wooded. OTOH, it's sighted in and I'm accurate with it.

Or maybe this:

mini14.jpg

581 series Mini-14.

I need to sight it in with the ammo I'd be using, though. I've got it set for 55gr., but I'd probably be using 64gr. or heavier soft points.

so far this year ive killed deer with my 300 wby vanguard, 7mm mag ruger hawkeye, 264 mag ruger hawkeye, 257 wby cdl and my rem 700 7stw and my ruger #1 2506. I do crop damage so its more deer shooting then deer hunting.

I'm not sure yet. I was only able to obtain a Bull Elk tag this year. (Hoping to get a left-over Cow tag on Thursday, but there's no guarantee I'll be quick enough.)

Thumper, a single-shot .444 Marlin, is 99% likely to go; but the backup/long range rifle has not yet been determined.

My "go-to" rifle is ready, able, and willing.
Ruger 77 Mk II, .270 Win

...But it gets really heavy being packed around after Elk, in the thick blown-down areas I hunt (~10.6 lbs, without the bipod), along with the other gear I'm carrying. The stuff is very tiring to pack a heavy rifle through, mile after mile, on steep slopes, through marshes, in the snow, with no real breaks in the blow-down...

I'll figure it out.... eventually.

Will be using the new Remington 700 SPS Buckmasters .270 this year.

Will take the Ruger 77 MkII stainless .300 win mag with Boyds stock (pillar and glass bedded with free floated barrel) along just in case.

Both wear new Nikon ProStaff 3-9 X 40 BDC scopes and shoot well under an inch at 100 yards with factory ammo.

Same rifle I've been hunting with since I was 20 something...
6_5x55_swede.jpg

My dad's custom built Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55. That rifle has killed a bunch of deer for me and a couple of coyotes and accounted for an untold number of deer for dad over the years.

Remington 700 sps ss in .308 win topped with a Nikon Monarch 3x12x42 optic sporting a Butler creek padded sling and Allen 9 cartridge sleeve. This is a sub moa rifle at 100, 200, and 300 yards. and relatively light weight. It is all around my perfect rifle. I will be shooting 150 grain hand loads of Federal soft point depending upon were I am hunting. They seem to work good for just about any thing I am hunting in NY from wood chuck, coyotes, deer, and if I see one in season a black bear(unlikly).

deer rifle is undecided as of yet: a toss-up between my remington 700 in 243 or my savage enfield no 4 in 303 brit.

for elk it will be the weatherby vangard in 300 weatherby mag with nikon prostaff 4-12x scope.

I'll be using my CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 for the 3rd. year in a row. I've put down 5 deer so far with It. It has a leupold VXII 2-7x33 scope mounted now.

I don't have a pic of my go-to gun... It's a T/C Encore Pro Hunter with 24" Heavy Contour .260 Remington... fantastic tree stand/shooting house gun... it's 6" shorter than a 22" bolt action like my Browning A-Bolt .30-06. It currently has a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9 on top, but I think it's messed up... gotta go to the range to see if I need to replace it.

My newest one (lighting is bad... colors are off) I got three weeks ago:

Ruger M77 Hawkeye All Weather in .338 Federal
I had a Leupold VX-1 3x9 sitting in a box that I put on it.

This... soon

Still trying to decide on an appropriate scope. But it is 243 and is probably one of the best hunting rifles ever manufactured.

I'm really excited to do some coyote hunting with this rifle in a month or so.

Just got done bear hunting, didn't get one. But I used a New England SB2 Handi Rifle in 45-70. I bought the gun for $200 last year just because of it's caliber. But after hunting with it, I absolutely love this gun.

Hopefully I'll get out there, but I am not certain of it. In any case, it would be my Yugoslav Mauser M48 sporter carbine (18" barrel), with home-built aperture sights (yes, iron sights).....and my home-brewed paper-patched soft lead bullets, handloaded to suit the rifle.

I am an iconoclast, you see. Viva la difference !!!

I plan to do something different this year.

This is my Traditions Persuit with Leupold Ultimate Slam Scope.
Its an accurate Rifle, and I want to try it on Deer and Hogs this Year.:)
