Hunting conversion - mosin nagant 91/30 vs swiss k31

The mauser I recommended I would say is by and large superior to the mosin in almost every, if not all regards. In this particular case its a Yugo mauser, and also just the barreled action making the sporter conversion even easier. Get the bolt turned down by boltman and you're good to go. Personally I'd take a mauser over both of the other rifles but I'm a sucker for CRF actions.

There are Mausers in other calibers than 8MM ..... 7x57 being the most common.
yes but almost all of the mausers currently available retail(including the one which was recommended from samco) are military service model 98s which are 8mm not 7mm.

I guess I was supposed to compare the mauser to both the mosin and the swiss wasn't I? all my comparisons were to the K31. when compared to the mosin nagant the mauser isn't even in the same zip code as far as quality is concerned.

more accurate(generally), smoother action, better balance, better sights, tighter tolerances, generally better kept/maintained during their service(russian conscripts weren't exactly the most meticulous with their arms).

The MN- speaking of the 91/30's- can be minute of angle or slightly better "correctly" sporterized/accurized as long as you've got one with a great bore to start with. It can certainly be a capable hunting rifle with that level of accuracy.

Epoxy and pillar bed the receiver, cut/re-crown the barrel, Timney trigger, and handloads or good factory ammo.

My point being, the MN (excluding what are some very accurate Finnish captures) requires more time and money to do what the K-31 will with no modifications.

Modifying the Mosin-Nagant is more for those that want to delve into a fun DIY project for a capable, and "different" rifle.
