Hunt Of A Lifetime

HOOWEEE! This is a fun one! For me it would be no contest, I'd choose a lion hunt. Not shooting a lion over bait, but a real month long safari of tracking a trophy lion, sleeping in temporary camps, shooting plains game for camp meat, the whole Hemmingway or Capstick experience. I've found an outfitter who does this and its six figures.

Mountain Goat with a longbow. No one else around. Just me, the elements, the bow and arrows that I handcrafted. The challange of a lifetime.

North America.
Lots of thing to hunt from Alaska and Canada down to Mexico.
2 big bears, 7 types of cervines, 2 goats, 2 big cats, An ox and a bison and 2 pigs.
That's a three week trip with a couple of days for travel. Vary each animal by different types of terrain and we're talking about a very long vacation.

Not to be pedantic, but
2 big bears, 7 types of cervines, 2 goats, 2 big cats, An ox and a bison and 2 pigs.
2 big bears- grizzly is a big bear, and brown bear, but they are the same animal. Black bear are pretty small.
7 types of cervines- cervids, deer family, include moose (3 types), caribou (3 types), elk (3 types), deer (6 types I can think of off the top of my head)
2 goats- there are no goats (Capridae) native to the American continent, but there are Mountain goats (Antilocapra). They are a unique species, as are Pronghorn antelope.
2 big cats- Mountain lion is certainly a big cat. Jaguar is big but is protected. Ocelot is also protected. That leaves the small cats (lynx, bobcat, margay maybe) that can be hunted.
An ox- ?? drawing a blank on this one?? Cape buffalo are a true ox.
a bison- Wood bison and plains bison.
and
2 pigs- 1 pig and a peccary (if you are referring to javelina). All pigs are the same genus and species (Sus scrofa), whether you hunt Russian boar, ridgebacks, or feral pigs, they are all the same thing.

All in all, I want to hunt with Buzzcook! Looks like he is going to be having some fun!

Africa- Cape Buffalo and Elephant, plus a Lion as well.
They have a good chance of bagging you if your not careful, as well.
As Jeff Cooper once said,"Danger, not variety, is the spice of life."

Alaska

Been to Africa now I have to answer all the freakin questions on the medical records part about going to Africa.

Sorch if your going to wish for something you know you're not going to get wish big.

Your right I wasn't being taxonomically correct. Thanks for pointing out the error:)

Hey scorch,
Grizzlys (Ursus horribilis) and Brown bear (Ursus Gyas) are not the same
Or the second big bear could be a POLAR BEAR thats pretty big.
The pronghorn is a goat native to North America
Jaguar can be hunted in North America, just not in the United States..
While the musk ox isn't a true ox, its English name is musk OX
Same with mountain GOAT
And Javelina (Tayassu tajacu) are a different genus and species than true pigs.
Just saying, he was right about a lot of the animals you felt like correcting him on...

Used to be they were considered different species. Brown bears and grizzlies are the same species, Ursus arctos, and have been considered the same species for quite a few years.

Yes, I thought of that later. In Canada you are still allowed to hunt them, but you can't bring parts back to the USA since they are listed under the trade in endangered species agreement. In Alaska they can only be hunted by Natives, IIRC.

Although Pronghorn and Mt Goats are referred to as goats, they are not goats, neither is the Musk Ox an ox. And Pronghorn are not antelopes, either.

Just saying, I would like to go hunting with him for all of those species.

Hard choice between Alaska and Africa there. I never knew about those Red Stags until I saw that Outdoor Channel show tonight. Well NZ looks nice.

But the redneck in me says, dream hunt is just the good old Lower 48 hunting the next Hogzilla, with a revolver. Close to home, I can bring home the meat. If I had to pick my favorite vice it would be Bacon.

Though if you're talking dreams as in Dreams, that T-Rex hunt would be up my alley. 4-bore, black powder, big ol' lead ball.

Well I'm not leaving the country :) Put me in the middle of the rut in one of the Rocky Mtn. states with a giant bull elk fired up at me calling at him. He runs up the hill toward me and at 20 yards away now I'm now at full draw....trying to control my emotions to place a double lung shot on the giant! If that doesn't get your blood flowing nothing will! :D

44Capnball and Brian429 bring up a good point.

If this is a dream hunt we're not just talkin about a lot of game; we're talknin about a lot of game with a lot of different types of weapons.

Teddy Roosevelt hunted in Africa for 9 months. I think we could make Teddy look like a member of PETA.

To Canada or Alaska for a moose & black bear hunt. It would be nice to have a week off to just hunt Rabbits & Ruffle Grouse in my own back yard.
