How would you rate the FN Five-seven?

The FiveSeven is one of those guns I'll probably pick up when I leave NJ... mainly because I'm not having 20 rounders pinned or buying 10 rounders. It's sad, but I have quite a few guns that I'm likely keeping, but need to get either a bunch of magazines over 15 rounds (9mm PX4 and SP-01; 7.62x39mm AK; 5.56mm, .45 ACP, and .22 AR).

Personally, I think a high capacity .22/5.7mm is a neat toy. Will I carry it? Probably not, but would like to see what it can do in regards to performance. Don't get me wrong, I consider 9mm in my low end of carry guns... but 20 round magazines (flush fitting) do have a nice ring to them.

Range/Fun 10/10
Duty (With the original ammo no available to citizens in the US) 10/10
CCW 3/10 kind of big even though it is light
Home Defence 5/10 As good as most anything else, but not better.

Big gun which is quite expensive and shoot REAL expensive ammo.

No recoil to speak of.

Ballistics are extremely similar to a 22 WMR.

Quite accurate.

If it is a gun that works for the purpose you have in mind you'll love one.
So how it's rated I guess is a function of the mission statement you are rating it for.

5.7

I gotta weigh in on something. Every 5.7 thread I see someone says "expensive ammo, expensive gun, hard to find ammo"
I don't claim the FiveseveN is cheap or cheap to shoot but it isn't even close to the high end of the scale considering the price of some 1911s, hks, sigs and even my witness was more than a FiveseveN. None of those guns hold 20 rounds and will shoot flat out to 100yards. The ammo is jhp sorry there is no cheap range ammo alternative but for 50 rounds of jhp 5.7 isn't that expensive at least not that I have found. It isn't hard to find either. I see it in plenty at every store and show I go to. I bought a case from a vendor that had maybe 50 cases of it at a local show.
The FiveseveN isn't a cheap gun or cheap to shoot but it isn't crazy expensive either. If the difference in price is that significant then spending the money on a pistol that isn't needed as a primary safety/defense gun is probably money you should spend on something more important.

None of the above. For home defense, you can choose better. For concealed carry, it's not likely you'll be shooting someone with body armor other than police officers. For duty carry, same thing.

The most realistic use a 5.7 pistol will have is as a range toy, but it's a damn expensive one and it makes sense why I've never seen one in a gun store or a shooting range.

Agreed 100%. Someone offered me one in a trade (my gun was worth like 1/2 of the FN 5.7). I still said no.

I have zero use for it. Not even as a range toy.

I don't understand why someone would offer you twice as much for your gun and then you not taking it and then turn around and sell it?

Ammo is readily available Academy, Cabelas, Bass Pro all have it for $25.00 to $28.00 not stacked deep but always have some.

I concur. Often see 5.7 ammo priced for $19.95 and as low as $15.95 on sale. Not cheap 9mm prices but not worth crying about either. Not hard to find either, at least not around my locale.

IMHO, most people that comment in 5.7 threads have never owned, handled or used the pistol. So much misinformation.
