I plan on going to the range early Tuesday evening.
Will spend the evening with ATF (Alcohol, TV, and Firearms), having some adult beverages in front of the TV while cleaning guns.
If, worst case, Bore, I mean Gore, wins, I figure I've got a couple years before he makes any big changes in federal gun control. I don't think gun control is high on Gore's priority list; he has been trying to spin a gun control position that doesn't offend anyone. I get the feeling that he just goes whichever way the wind blows on this issue for now. I'm sure he will sign stricter gun control if it gets the support and passes Congress. The Brady Bill expires in 2004. I don't see Gore or the feds doing anything on gun control until they start working on a replacement or extension of Brady in 2003. Until then, any stricter gun control will be at the state level, with tacit approval from BATF and the feds. I'm sure the various Peoples Republics will start work on further restrictions when their new legislatures meet in 2001.
Longer term, I think Gore is sneaky and dangerous on this issue. His debate statements indicate that he would go along with eventual elimination of civilian ownership of handguns. I wouldn't be surprised if the Tipper is the one yapping in his ear about gun control. I don't think he could accomplish this, even in 8 years (shudder), but I thing he could make some serious movements down that road. I think this will happen in the socialist states of CA, MA, MD, etc. before the feds go at it. First to go will be semi-auto handguns, followed by semi-auto long guns. "Sportsmen" will be limited to bolt action rifles, pump shotguns, and revolvers if the anti's get their way. It can happen here. But it will take a long time. And it will start in California.
