Im not a fan of the short mags. I just dont see what all the hoopla is about. Its no advantage to me that i can have a shorter action. I can work a long action plenty fast enough. I dont care if i save 10cents on powder loading one. the little bit of powder savings is a very small part of reloading. Most of it is in the price of component bullets. That said ill say this. I shoot ALOT of deer every year. Probably an average of at least 50. Anyone who will tell you that youll never notice the differnce of effect on a whitetail that 200 fps more will give you just hasnt shot enough whitetail. A 3006 will put down deer with more athority then a 308 and a 300 mag will put them down with more athourity then an 06. Guys will quote numbers all the time. They will say there only a few inches flatter at say 400 yards but that few inches can mean the differnce in a quick kill and a tracking job if your off at your range estimation by even 25 yards at that distance. I guess though i have to add that if you need to ask you probably have no business shooting deer out where the mags do show an advantage.
