How to keep your "truck" shotgun rust free?

My workin' guns get gunslick graphite paste on the internals and a Johnson's paste wax rub on everything else, a couple of times a year, with an occasional squirt of CLP in the shotgun bore. they ain't pretty, but they ain't rusty either. Paul

"He just spent $160 to get a 500, then another $100 or so to get an 18.5" barrel + PG.

I've NEVER been a fan of PG's but he seems to like those to."

here's my question, as someone looking to get a 500, where did he find a decent one for only 160?

Breakfree or Eezox have worked well for me to keep rust at bay. The REAL secret is to reapply whatever you are using on a regular basis - that is probably just as important as what you use.

Break free clp in the milspec bottle is good stuff. I use corrosive ammo in my Mosins and have never seen any rusting anywhere internally or externally with any of my guns. I rubbed it into the matte finish on my field shotguns and no problems. I do a wipe down evey three months on all of my firearms and no worries. On my blackpowder pistol, I use bore butter after a thorough cleaning and everythings peachy!

How to keep your "truck" shotgun rust free? Simple: make sure it's clean and covered/wiped with oil on a regularly basis and every time after shooting... it works for me.

what about rubbing Castrol or Mobil-1 in and then heat treating with a blow dryer or heat gun? When its nice and hot, rub in with a cloth, and then repeat once.

Would that build a nice little temporary barrier?

I spent some time in the Central American rain forest where it rained 14 times a day, rifle in hand every day, all day. I used Simoniz paste wax for automobiles (Yellow Can). A couple or three good coats and the rain beaded up and rolled right off, dust could be blown off and mud could easily be wiped off. Easy, cheap and works better than anything else I've found.
