How to in-car carry?

I took out the factory double din radio that was in my car to replace it with a single din one that was IPOD compatible. This left a space where I can easily slide a subcompact or snubby without it being noticable at all, but within easy right hand reach. I thought about sewing one onto the drivers seat by my legs but don't want to mess up my blue suede:)

I mounted a cheap-o nylon holster on the back of my center console. I feel it is in a good position to reach it to depoly towards either door. If it matters, this is on a 99 Silverado extended cab with front captain's chairs.

The Wilderness makes a holster they call the Safepacker, I have several, I use them for hiking and backpacking but the web site shows how it can slip right on to a seatbelt and be available in a couple of positions, including crossdraw. Haven't tried car carry with a Safepacker, but am pretty sure it would work.

When I am in a vehicle, my .45 stays in its holster, but gets tucked under my right thigh (right handed). It sits muzzle towards the rear, grip out. It is not uncomforatable for me, quick to get to, and is hard to spot unless you are looking for it, all you can see is the last 1/2" or so of the bottom of the grip (not visible at all if I am in the passenger seat).

In-Car Carry

Mine is in the center console with a belt clip holster butt up. IF I need it, I grab it and slide it onto the belt and lower my open bottom shirt over it. Spare mag goes into the left front pocket. Reverse your turn getting back into the SUV. I have 2 additional mags in the center console. Dirty Harry always carried 3 loads.....

Well first what kind of car is it?
That can make a lot of difference.
I own a chevy s-10 single cab and just use the map holder on the drivers side door and I keep a pair of handcuffs with me so i can lock the gun to something as needed if I need to.
I also have been known to place the gun in the center consul as I drive a stick shift so my hand is not very far from it

Glove Box?

Isn't this what this box can be used for? I comes with the car, you already have a separate key to it, and amazingly it locks after all...

And for storing the pistol when you are perhaps away at court or wherever - why do I need some 30 pound drop in steel box, anchored to the frame? Your car is not Fort Knox. It can be stolen even easier than the thief realistically spending 10-30 minutes prying open a box. LoL, they'll just steal the car and work on your vault elsewhere. A locked glove compartment should work just fine for storing a handgun temporarily. And really, if BG steps out of car it couldn't be that hard to retrieve one from there as well.

But I don't want to put a dent into anyone's marketing plan by injecting common sense, so, anyway...

I ussually have a backpack in the car and if its not on me I just slip it in my bag. I never leave it in the car, maybe in the driveway once and a while.

Crossdraw FBI cant (for autos) or in a messenger bag secured in a sidekick holster (for wheelguns). I really like container carry: very concealable, readily accessible, and here in the land of uber-libs everybody has a stupid little bag they carry around... mine just has a .357 in it! If I'm carrying my Tomcat 3032 I just take it out of the pocket and set it in a cup holder.
