So, by no means is this in anyway statistically significant, but it seemed funny that we all stored valuables in this location.

Oooo now that would be bad, another good reson not to do that.
Another reason is this: some states have a left alone gun law, in other words leave a gun unattended and someone gets it and uses it. You will be charged in some states it is a felony. Nebr. is considering this due to a shooting recently. A policeman left his gun in a closet at home, his son grabs it takes it to school kills a educator wounds the priciple.
Keep it on your person or keep it locked up is the message I am getting here from these laws. So no closet carry for me.
