I am surprised you have never heard of the Japanese underestimation of the American resolve. Leading right up to the Pearl harbor attack, Emperor Hirohito made numerous speeches about the will of the American. He told his people that we were fat and lazy. He said that a divided country such as ours would be vulnerable to a fight with an army composed of one, superior race.
Maybe what celebrities screech about is not as important as some make it out to be. But I do not think they should be totally discounted either.
