How the UN kills American Soldiers.

I wonder how well thought out some of the arguments are here. The title of this thread is How the UN kills American Soldiers. But the consensus is how we are shortchanging our troops by giving the money to Baby Blue or at least not distributing it correctly. Do I read that part right?

I'm confused. We give funds to the UN. We know they will waste it and we'll never see any benefit. They are predictable and consistent. We should know better. Business as usual, the way I see it.

So is the correct title of this thread How America Kills US Soldiers? That's what I'm reading here.

I recall Bush making arguments that more money was needed for our troops to update equipment. I remember our church taking an offering that was to be used to do that as well. There are budgets, I'm not saying they are right. But certainly money is set aside for "military" and "humanitarian". Our highschool had a "budget", we had something like four thousand dollars left over in the food budget at the end of the year. News to the school is... it doesn't roll over, if you don't use it, you do lose it, and you can't use it for anything but the cafeteria... so we got talking trash cans. Again, it's not right, but I'm guessing a similar situation is occuring here. But I also say we should support our allies as they are just that, allies. And an ally in the Middle East is priceless at this point in time.

The Navy's got pretty much the same problem (we aren't concerned with lasers and flashlights so much as we are with suitable protection...we, too, are using outdated Vietnam era flak jackets), so I understand where you're coming from.

Keep your head down, brother.

To all.

To all who have given words of support/encouragement, thank you.
To the fellow service members, thank you also.

To Bud, about the title. I think, in fact, that you are right. It's a shame to be so blunt and place the blame squarely on America, but in this case it does seem to be correct. Maybe not on the average American citizen, but most certainly the American decision makers.

To Kelly J: contact whoever you think can help. Aside from my 200 or so, there are several hundred more just on this one FOB with substandard equipment. It's FOB Falcon in southeast Baghdad, if that helps. Thanks.

Redworm:
You're right. Money is not always the solution. Especially not here. We aren't really talking about a solution though, so much as survivability. The mentality of the average ground troop over here is not kick arse and win, but come home alive. That can be solved by funding, I think, or at least substantially improved.
You're also quite right about wasted funds. Plenty has gone on here. It is a shame that because of that it is harder to get money when we really need it. Kind of a boy who cried wolf story, compliments of CENTCOM.

Thanks again to all who have read my rant here.:o

Tell your congresspeople who fill up the budget with pork for the home folks. Remember the bridge to nowhere.

It's not just foreign aid (not that unworthy aid should be granted) but the government in general.
