How practical is it to carry the 1911 full-size?

I carried a Browning HP for years (currently a Beretta 92, and I'm about to switch to a 1911) without a problem; basically the same size as a 1911. It's all in how you dress; if you do your part, no one will know you're carrying a 1911.

My question was somewhat rhetorical. I've owned just about everything under the sun, but for the life of me, nothing is really any more concealable than my 1911's. Of course, there are the micro-mini's, but please, give me a break! I'm not carrying something that small. So, why do so many people think smaller and lighter is better. I'll admit, sometimes they sway me, then, I'm right back onboard the 1911 bandwagon. I really don't think I'll ever ditch the 1911.

CSAY...

I've tried it all too, and I always come back to the commander or full-sized 1911. A full size 1911 conceals better for me than a Glock (or is that Block?) 27. Sigs, HK's, and Glocks are too thick. A full size 1911 in a VM2 is tuckable under a dress shirt. A BHP or P7M8 conceals for the same reasons: They're thin...

Also, I want to carry what I shoot best, and that's the 1911...

There's also the info that I read SOMEwhere (someone else help with a link, please?) that showed that it's not the barrel/slide length that made a pistol hard to conceal, but rather thickness of the cylinder/slide and length of the grip. Myself, I have no problems (other than my 'everyone HAS to be able to see that! newbie paranoia) with either my fullsize Kimber or my wifes Commander length...but then again, I'm a fairly husky guy.

Carried gvt 1911 for sumpin like 40 years. Lot of the time concealed. Thin, dependable and comforting. Usually had a wheel back up tho.

Now don't own an autoloader.
