I noticed most shooters at the local range are under 65

I rarely see anybody much older than 65 - 70 at the range

most people seem to be early 20's - 50's

I see a bunch of retired guys, maybe it's when you go. I'm currently unemployed so I go during weekdays.

I think you're too old when you can't see the target any more, or hold the gun steady.

My father-in-law was an avid collector and shooter his entire adult life, and he made it to 100 years old. I last took him to the range when he was in his early 90s. Still using his Model 14 he used often at Camp Perry. It always amazed me how steady his hand was once he raised the gun to the target. As long as you remain safe, don't worry about age. ENJOY.

i'm 75 years old. Go to the range at least once per week. Ain't lost the touch yet: Today i fired a 5/8" five shot group at 100 meters with my Remington 700 in .222 Remington.

Too bad i'm usually the only guy over 60 on the range. i have several friends over 70 but they are reluctant to get off the couch and live.

I shot protector trap with a guy that was 91 years young.
No one else would shoot with him as he missed a lot but he was
a great guy and fun to be with.

I am going on 71 and I don't see me stopping any time within the next 20 years.
I know quite a few shooters and hunters in there late 80's and early 90's.
If you are good mentally and physically why not.:)

A 93 year old D-Day vet did a tandem parachute jump into Normandy last week...I would guess he could still shoot too.

I am 62 with another birthday in 3 months and I shoot every week and compete in weekly IDPA type shoots that I typically finish in the top 5. My shooting buddy is 65 and he does just as well at the weekly shoot. We both feel we're good for another 20 years or so.

I'm 56 and retired. One thing that I've noticed at our range is that the older guys (myself included) don't like company. I tend to get to the rifle range before sunup. I have my targets up and ready to shoot at first light. There are several older guys who do the same. I almost always have the range to myself. If there is anyone else there it is one of the older guys.

We are finished and gone before the younger guys show up. Since I'm retired I can be pretty flexible. If I get there and there are more than 1-2 others, or if others show up, I just leave and come back another time. I notice the other older guys do the same. I'm sure it gives the appearance of a lot fewer old guys shooting. There are probably fewer of us, but I see the same old guys there a lot. It is always a different crew of younger guys.

I see a lot more older shooters at the shotgun areas. That is more of a social event than rifles.

I am 74 and I still go to the indoor range and shoot. Due to the cost of ammo I only go about twice a month and shoot 150 rounds each trip.

I'm 62 and retired. Normally I try to go a couple of weekdays anywhere from 9:30-10:30. Range opens at 9:00. Few shooters, but more elderly crowd, at those times. Vast majority are shooting handguns, mostly carry pistols or revolvers.

Evenings and weekends are entirely different. Much younger crowd and more AR/AK type weapons. You definitely would not want to forget hearing protection.

My 73-year-old best pal went to her first Appleseed event last fall, and made Rifleman her first time out. So they went and made her an instructor-in-training...

We shoot every chance we get, which isn't as often as we'd like, but... no plans to stop.

When I get old enough to retire, you won't see me at the range anymore.

Because I'll go during the day while you're at work. ;)

When I get to be that age I hope I don't have to go to a range--and have my own property to shoot on.

You're never too old to shoot :)

I'm 61 and I try to shoot every day. Don't know about 62. Next month I leave for a solo backpacking trip into the heart of the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, and there's a good chance I will be eaten. If I am I will go down shooting.

So long as I have my trifocals on or a telescope, I shoot better now than I did when I was in my twenties.

You need to shoot with the group I shoot with. Our youngest is 57 and oldest is fast approaching 69. Most of the regulars I shoot with are collecting SS. I'll quit shooting when I'm in the urn:)
