Depends. My small bore match guns get cleaned when they start to have problems. All my center fires get cleaned same day as shooting.
And yes there is a reason for not cleaning the .22 bullseye guns more often. The disassemble and reassemble change point of aim enough that I would have to resight before each match.

Just my opinion, but CC'ing a freshly assembled gun is a bad idea even if it passes a functions check. You just never know...

Yes, much better is to let it sit overnight for it will magically set and become somehow better gun...

Well....not necessarily. I think the determining factor in this case, for personal defense or whatnot, has little to do with how recently the weapon was reassembled (especially if it "passes" a post-assembly function check) and much more to do with whether or not the gun has proven reliable over hundreds of rounds, using a specific load of choice (in this case, a chosen personal protection load).

Besides, if a successful function check (post cleaning/reassembly) is not enough, the only other way to truly test the guns reliability is to actually shoot it! Then, you will need to clean it, reassemble it and function test....then shoot the thing at a later date. Add, rinse, repeat. I think you get the idea.

I used to clean religiously after each shooting session. Then it turned into every other session. Then I got into a comfortable "Every 6 months no matter what, otherwise it depends on when it will be shot next". I won't let my guns go more than 6 months without pulling them out and throroughly examining them after spotting a spec of rust on my nearly new 10/22 barrel that had wintered in my closet. On the other hand, I no longer think that oil and gun powder residue is the devil and figure I do more harm than good cleaning my .22's excessively.

I more or less figure that a gun that will be shot again within two weeks probably doesn't need more than a wipedown. A gun that's going to be stored for 1 or more months needs a throrough cleaning and wipe-down. About once a year I knock them apart and detail clean them, but it's not more than an annual thing. I have noticed that they need much less cleaning once I hit them with compressed air after the CLP/G96 treatment.
