How Often are you Supposed to Clean your Gun?

I should probably be ashamed to say this, but I clean my guns about as often as I clean my truck. When they're new they get a lot of TLC. Once they're a little "seasoned" they only get cleaned when I think they really need it. My truck hasn't been washed in over a year and guns get cleaned when I think their accuracy (rifles) or function may be in jeopardy.
