How much time to get long gun into action?

I sleep with my pistol about a foot from my head on my nightstand. For me any long gun simply is not practical. The dogs are also pretty good at alerting us to any outside activity long before it would get inside.

This is one of those polls that will vary in answers from individual to individual.
