How much "Serious" ammo to keep on hand?...

What kinds of ammo are people talking about? Do you put away quality ammo or cheap ammo?

Also, I know you're supposed to store ammo in a cool, dry place. My question is, do you just get those little packs of preservatives that absorb moisture?

Ammo that has been recovered that has spent 20 years under sea water still fires. If you worried about moisture put a dab of nail polish on the primer. Your ammo is fine, it will outlive you by many years.

Gosh, this is near and dear to my heart. I have been stocking up for 2 years now. Every time I go to the store I get 1 or 3 boxes of ammo. It is easier to get it in the house without any questions that way. I was counting what I had several months ago when I got a new safe. I have anywhere from 2k to 3k of each caliber/gauge that I shoot in stock. That feels about right to me. For each box that I shoot at the range I'll buy 2 to take it's place.

I guess it becomes rather expensive when I consider that I shoot 380, 9mm, 40s&w, 357sig, 45acp, 45LC, .410 handgun, 12 ga. buck, slug, 4,6 & 8 shot, 16 ga. buck, slug, 4, 6 & 8.

The moderators thought reviving this thread was rediculous. I just thought it was an interesting topic. They know much more about how internet conversations should take place though. I am sorry for not being profound when I post on an old thread. So, is it better to have dozens of threads on the same topic, or to search old threads and just post there. It seems either way is wrong.

Holy thread necromancy, batman! If this thread were a kid, it'd be learning long division and multiplication tables right about now...

LOL:D

The OP was before all the ammo hoarding took place.

Like clock work every 2 weeks the first place i start is at the Gun counter and 3 boxes of rifled slugs and 3 boxes of buck shot.So far i'm over 1,500 rounds of each and adding every pay check.I haven't decided to stop once i hit 5,000 each or not.

After that i stock up on regular handgun ammo every payday as well.I order mine of line and stock pile everything i get except for range ammo.

others have pointed out that you can never have enough is correct, and i'll gladly buy everything i can afford every chance i can.Yes i'm a hoarder but i get out and shoot a box or 2 every 2 weeks as long as the range ammo is still on the shelves. The weird part is i don't hoard range ammo, only the good stuff.

I won't say how much ammo I have put back, but I sure ain't carrying it anywhere. I shoot a lot, and after the scarcity this past year I decided I would just build up my stockpile so I would never have to search for ammo again any tiome I wanted to go shooting.

I have several fully automatic weapons which require a lot more ammo than the average shooter, and I've stockpiled ammo for those weapons especially.

I do worry a bit about political problems in the future. I think I live in a state where there will never be any restrictions on guns and ammo, but who knows what the future will bring. So, I decided to have sufficient ammo for my needs, whatever those may be, for the long-range future. I'm not a survivalist or radical, I just like to shoot, and I want to be able to do that whenever I want.

Bit of a time warp, reading about the poster 9 years ago getting 10 rds of 12GA for $2.19.....

...sure beats the stock market!
