How much more "power" does a 209 primer have over a magnum pistol or rifle primer

Sounds like a day with a chrony would bring back a good read worth of results and would be a true judge of the differences, if any between velocities achieved.

BUCK... that sounds like a realistic plan... ( of course waiting for warm weather... as it's -10* out there today ) was hoping someone had experimented already... since it's going to be a while... & I'd be force to buy a couple of their modified 209 cases, or drill out one of mine...

though it may be not as fun as blowing up soup cans :)

Need to stop thinking about primers in terms of "power". A magnum primer is not "more powerful" than a standard primer. Primers are tailored to burn at a certain temperature and speed for their application.

You'd better tell CCI about this. They think otherwise. They actually have published data showing the energy difference in all their rifle and pistol primers.

Since 209s are made for shotguns where pressures can run from the low side in 12 to the high side in 410, yet none are that close to basic handgun or rifles that I am aware of. Most 12 ga run about 9-11K psi
