How much is your gun collection worth?

I cannot understand why people post private information for the world to see. Too many 'bad guys' looking for such information.

Well, because most of us post using an anoymous name with no address information. Because our IP's can't be traced to our homes (some of us, anyway). There's a good chance we could be lying anyway. And, most of us are armed.

So, let's say you are an evil bad guy who wants to steal my million dollar collection of 1st generation colts and exotic Glocks. Tell me where I live and how you would go about stealing my million dollar collection? Perhaps I'm naive, but I don't think it's all that easy for BG's to get such information...Now, the government is a different story...

The value of guns like anything else like vintage cars or stereo equipment, it varies over time as anything else does. My vintage stereo equipment collection is worth 5 to 7 times what my gun collection of over 40 guns is worth. If anybody on this forum is into vintage stereo equipment, they will know the value of my 2 Sansui 9090DB's and Pioneer SX-1060 and Akai GX 747 DB which is only one of over 30 RTR decks I own and my 150 10.5" reels or my 300 reels of Maxell tape. But in the end anything I own is only worth what the next person who buys it is willing to pay.

My best "tactic" was getting a C&R license since my interest is in older guns. Not having to go thru an FFL makes it more enjoyable. Shopping on the web is really fun (haven't been burned yet) and if some dealer refuses to accept a C&R license I enjoy telling him I am taking my business elsewhere.

It's priceless too me because I have all my first (hand gun, rifle, shot gun) as well as a few pieces passed down by family. I look forward to passing them to my kids as well. Probably no more than 10k though.

What does it all mean? Buying a gun is not an investment. It's value only grows at the rate that money shrinks. A real investment is something that works and grows.

All true, right up to the point where you're lucky enough to be the one holding a banned or newly regulated gun/ammo/etc.

Ask those who owned automatic weapons prior to 1986 how much those weapons have appreciated annually since they bought them.
