How much ammo is enough?

Given the proclivity of Congress to ban everything in sight - I figure ammo is next. You cannot have too much ammo in stock. If you can't afford to buy lots of high-caliber ammo, get a 10-22 and buy THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS of .22LR - more affordable.

You can NEVER have enough ammo. Well, if you can't walk around in your living room because of the ammo crates, then perhaps you do have enough. Until then...

It's been a while since I've counted. I'm a bit down on .223. Probably less than 500 rounds, so I'd best buy some more. Close to a 1000 in .308. Another 500+ in 7.62x39 Those are my main defensive calibers. So I'm not as concerned that I'm a bit short on 30.06, 6.5x55, .303 Brit, and 7.62x54R. Only a thousand rounds or so of .22lr (really should stock up, it's cheap). A bit short on 00 buck (only a hundred or so) and slugs.

Probably 500 rounds each of 9mm, .38, and 45, with the components to reload 500 rounds of each. A bit short on .40. A couple hundred .380ACP.

Guess I need to start ordering ammo again.

A number that I have always liked when talking about this issue is that one who is serious about guns should have at least 1,000 rounds for each rifle and 500 rounds for each pistol on hand. 100 rounds of Birdshot per shotgun and 50 slugs and 50 buckshot.

The exception is the .22 RF. There I say have as much on hand as can store. Last time I checked its fairly easy to store 4,000 rounds in a .50 caliber ammo can.

BTW this is all factory fresh ammo, it does not include whatever reloads are on hand.

It's amazing what a large group of stupid people can accomplish.

Between 200-500 rounds for each caliber/gauge of firearm I own, except for .22 rimfire (about 1000 rounds).

I don't really care who knows. "Arsenal Found in Handgun Licencee's Home" along with my name and address is going to be plastered all over the "Chronicle" if something bad ever happens anyway.

I have about
11,000 rounds of reloaded .45 ACP.
8000 rounds of .223
700 rounds of .308

rest of the calibers combined... 5000 rounds

I think ya'll arent quite right.......if you can count the number of rounds you have, you dont have enough. Its better to have ammo measured in lbs, then rounds...lol...fubsy.

I haven't counted, but the word "round(s)" may have been written scaity-eight times (above)... but what if bores were square? :)

I keep enough to ensure the doors are covered - ALL the doors.

Darn! All the good smart-a** replies have already been made!

I must not have enough...I still have empty space in the Bat Cave...I mean my basement.

"BLOAT!!" (Buy Lots Of Ammo Today) Here's a cache tip: after you load weapons into a PVC tube, fill it up tightly with boxes and loose rounds of ammo, then seal up the top end cap. This package will now be heavy enough to sink in water. You can tie a line around the middle and hide it under an old dock. The retrieval line can be tied at the top under the dock. Soon it will get so nasty that no one will ever touch it but you. Or hide it away from land, tied on the bottom to old junk that you find in most lakes and rivers, just make sure you can find it again!

Some of you guys really need to look at reloading...buying that much ammo is just plaine wasteful.
