How much ammo is enough?

How much ammo do you keep on hand? Do you have any particular reasons, or are some of you just ammo junkies like me? Also, how much of it is "store bought" vs. reloaded? I know that's a lot of questions, so TIA. D'ont be too specific as I don't want anybody supplying the antis with too much info.

I like to have 1000 rounds of ammo for every caliber gun I own, in their original factory packages, inside an airtight ammo box, just as a reserve measure.

Minimum 50 rounds of factory ammo and usually about 100-200 reloads per gun. Some popular calibers such as 9mm, 45ACP, 38 Special, 223, 7.62x39, etc. I usually keep about 500-1,000 rounds per gun.

You should have seen my stock at end of last year for Y2K.

You can never have too much ammo.

A much better question would be, "How much ammo are you willing to give me?"

I have 10,000 rds of asst'd ammo, for my various guns. Ultimately, I intend to have over 40,000. Need to have enough so that after it's all banned, I'll be able to pass both guns AND ammo to the kids/grandkids.

More guns... more ammo... Right up until the door is slammed shut.

Unknown quantity of ammo, somewhere around 5000 round match grade 308 long range, and 2000 rounds medium range tactical 308. 10k or so of good .22lr.
None of that worries me.......it's the 96 pounds of powder and 50,000 primers that make the neighbors nervous. I kinda like that.............. :)

1000 rds for the AR-15(s)
500 rds for the Sig(s).
50 00 buck for the Mossy 590A1(s)

Telling you any more would let you know how many guns I own, so lets just say I need more.

I just shoot a lot, and I buy case lots 'cause its cheaper that way. I have no "stockpile", but if it looked like they were about to restrict ammo, I would buy more. As long as it is still available, why not keep it fresh, and my cash in the bank?

You can't be too thin, rich, or have too much ammo.

First of all, how much ammo I have is nobodies business.

And I know I am going to get flamed for this, but, who are you to be asking?

I get real suspicious, when people ask these questions on a public forum like this.

I see these type of questions on most firearms forums, common sense tells me
some are from an agency compiling a database.

RayVonasch, are you LEO, and are you gathering data for future reference?

Hmm. Let's see... Boxed: 20 rds .44 spl, 60 rds .44 mag, 100 rds .45 ACP, 50 rds .32 ACP, 40 rds 10mm. A dozen or so loose rounds in assorted calibers from the above list.

Plus, full mags/cylinders in all the guns. 1 or more loaded spares for each gun.

And I'm just visiting at my beau's; God only knows what I've got at home!

Count that, whoever's keeping tally on this board... ;)

Absolute minimum for defensive guns is three full mags each. For practice stuff, I buy bulk and when I get low again I go buy more. Big-lot pricing is important to me since I don't load my own.

Waterdog, I'm as far as you can be from an LEO, but don't answer if it makes you nervous. I understand your suspicion as I always am so myself. No prying was intended.Who I am to be asking? Just another forum member who is curious to see if I'm in the ballpark with my cache. No flame from me.

I'm not even saying that I own any guns :) but if I did I'd say you should have at least 1000 to 2000 rds for a rifle, and 300 to 500 rds for each pistol.

Ammunition is also a very barterable commodity, therefore, should society ever break down or times get tough you may be able to use it as money too!

Let's see - For my 6PPC, I've got five rounds still loaded up that I didn't fire in the last match of the Nationals. I really ought to buy a little more brass - This 20 pieces that I used for half the summer is getting a little tired. I don't have anything loaded for the 6BR (having a brake put on). I think I've got a few loaded for the .243, and I've got maybe 100 loaded for the .22-250. I've got a bunch loaded for the .308. Of course, for everything but the PPC, I've got at least 200 pieces of brass, and lots and lots of bullets, primers and powder. And all those rifles will definitely group inside 3/4 MOA. I've got a coupla thousand each for my spray & pray guns, and probably 10,000 .22LRs lying around. Plus there's plenty of Winchester AAs for the shotguns, along with a few hundred loads of buckshot and slugs.
