How many till you stop buying?

At one time I thought I had enough guns...

Until I realised the problem was not too many guns, I just didn't have enough safes!!!:D

At age 62, I've been buying for more than 4 decade, except for 2012. In 2012, I bought a large building (28,000 sq. ft.) as a warehouse for my manufacturing plant AND to have a large room inside for my private range (50' lane), so no guns during that year!

I am again buying a gun every other month or so, but concentrating now on .22 caliber that I can shoot privately.

I would also recommend to buy better guns. I will not mention brands, but when laying out funds, look at what is available for another 10 to 20% over what you are about to spend. The value of firearms and good optics will never be cheaper than they are today!

I don't seem to be able to quote previous posts, but if I could, I would add to "Red Ride's" quote: "and my wife" (though she spends oodles on her shoes and those dayam things all look alike, while my firearms are all truly different!).

Stop is a four letter word!

Honestly, I bought my first hand gun "for home defense only."

Being me, I wont have or do something where I am not knowledgeable and proficient (expert would be nice but proficiency is sufficient LOL) So, I took it to the range and found out how much FUN these things are.

Then I shot a friends milsurp (VZ24 I think it was) and Mosins are cheap.....and so the milsurp hunt began.

Then I shot a friends AR15, and so began my tinkertoys for adults obsession.

Then I shot a modern bolt gun, and commenced the quest for precision. Just starting this one, but have added a pre-64 M70, couple 700s and a Howa 1500 to the mix.

Loading was a natural offshoot to feed all these darn calibers.

And, so I can shoot at home, well suppressors had to come along didn't they? 22 goodness in the field, and maybe a blackout or 2, right?

I now have a "collection" for home defense only.....

I may take years, but I have found it CAN be done.

Oh, by the way guys, if your wives don't approve, you need to find a way, any way to get her involved. I happen to be a woman LOL and my income goes to GUNS. (Well, after the mortgage, car and food, but right there!)

So, I was think about this today... My first rifle was a 22 when I was 13 or 14 years old...

So that means I haven't considered stopping in slightly over 40 years.

Why would you ask?

My first was a Stevens Favorite in .25 rimfire. Tried to customize it when I was 10 or 11 and now I only have the barrel & action and the bottom tang is broken.

I have at least a half dozen other Stevens Favorites & Crackshots in .22, .25 & .32 rimfire, with most being falling blocks and 1 brake action, that looks like a falling block. Never paid more than $85.00 for any of them and wish I had more at what they're worth today!

I'm not saying i have a problem but last year alone I bought a
Remington 581 22lr
Norinco sks
Type 38 Arisaka 6.5
Remington Rolling #2 in 7mm
1894 winchester canadian commemorative 30-30
1894 winchester from 1942 30-30
Enfield #1 Mark 3 303
Enfield #4 Mark 1 303
Mossberg 500c 20 gauge

Lets just say I got a good deal on all of them. The Arisaka and Sks came with more ammo than the asking price of the rifles. And there were several I passed on.

"and my wife" (though she spends oodles on her shoes and those dayam things all look alike, while my firearms are all truly different!)."

Another reason for having more and larger safes...

NEVER give her a key "so she can keep her jewelry in the same safe" which is just her way of checking it out while you are not there...

That way she will never know how many guns you actually have!!!:D

And, if you sneek a new gun into a safe when she is not there...

It will never bother her and she will not bother you...

Once need or perceived need is satisfied, there is no right number. I have more than a few 22 rifles and those have been my dominant buying target in the last 5 years. It used to be handguns although I still buy handguns from time to time. What I generally have not purchased in the last 5 years are center fire rifles. I have enough for my use. If I purchased more center fire rifles, more than likely they would just gather dust. That is pretty much the deciding factor ultimately for me... DUST.

And if nothing else, this thread has reminded me of several guns I've wanted and will now "schedule" their acquisition! Tomorrow, it will be a Ruger 10-22 with a "Mannlicher" stock (thinking also of a Weaver styled rear sight to assist my aging eyes). At that time, I will put on layaway my Father's Day present, and will decide at the last minute what it will be-either a Henry steel receiver in .357 or a Rossi 92 in .45 Long Colt (I've been on the fence long enough trying to decide which I want).

This thread HAS delivered!

So far I have 6 Mausers (2 Yugo M48's, a Yugo 24/47, 2 German K98's and a German K98 sniper and a Mosin Nagant sniper). Also a old 1908 Marlin .22 that my dad gave when I was a kid long ago. Cash flow is my limiting factor but I don't always let that stop me!

I know there is not a special number, again, its just a number. I will admit I have more than I need but not as much as I want.lol. I have really slowed down the last year but have been working toward fixing up the guns I have the way I want them (upgrading a few).:D
