Many threads talk about how good (or bad) our groupings are. I know these forums are filled with dedicated shooters as well as novices. I know we'd like to have 3" groupings at 50 yards but that seems the norm for the "well practiced" shooters and not the average Joe.

I do know that practice makes the biggest difference so I'd like to know how many rounds "the average" shooter shoots a month. This can be at the range, at an organized event, in your back yard or wherever it is you shoot. This is in the handgun thread so let's keep it to handgun practice. If you shoot twice a year and shoot 200 rounds each time then the "monthly" average would be <100. Thanks to all that participate. Hopefully we can get a good handle on "the average" rounds per month we average as a group so we can see where we stand as individual shooters.

Handguns only? Between 200 and 500 weekly. Typically around 250 or 300 rounds per week.

About the poll - I clicked 251-500 then realized that was monthly. It should be more around 1000 monthly.

~2000 for me, but it in large part consists of .22. I bring whatever centerfire pistol catches my fancy and as of late my ruger 22/45 always comes instead of my Sig with .22 upper.

Used to be 2000+ (about 500-600 per weekend), but the last year or so it's only been 250-500 a month.....just can't afford to shoot near as much as I used to. :(

The last month only about 50 rounds per week but all in one hole (wishfull thinking), I love my new (to me) T/C Contender. But my wife is helping with an easy 500 per week.:D

I don't keep count, or try for a certain number.

Suffice to say I shoot enough to stay proficient.

When doing RO duty I put 700-800 rds out per month.

Then my job went away, life changed, and the old pattern ended.

Now I'm doing well to get out every few months.

With 20,000 rounds or more downrange I'm still a better shot than many - even without a lot of practice. (I usually bring a younger friend along and help him with technique pointers. And I can prove my point by outshooting him.)

I do know that practice makes the biggest difference so I'd like to know how many rounds "the average" shooter shoots a month.

Quality practice makes the biggest difference, not necessarily how much lead gets sent downrange.

At any rate, I put myself down for 1,000 - 1,250 centerfire rounds per month in practice, though over the next 6 months, that'll go up considerably. I've also been shooting approx 1,000 rimfire rounds per month, but that'll go down as my centerfire goes up.

I try to shoot once or twice a week at least 200 rds per session, But latley not so much. I get out maybe 4 times a month. But that includes rifle also.

150 or so, depends on what I shoot. Shoot more 9mms than 45 ACP. Not anywhere near as much as I'd like but don't have enough time or money for more.

Between 200 and 400, just because of the cost of ammo. I shoot 9mm but a box of the usual -and dirty- Magtech stuff is at 13€ per box of 50. I plan on starting to reload my own soon and cut costs by half, so I can double my monthly shots. I'd be happy shooting 500 rds per month.

I shoot between 50 and 100 a week for hand guns. I typically shoot rifles much less... probably 20-40 rounds a month from my 45/70 and about 200 rounds a month in 22lr or 17HMR depending on my mood.

shooting 45/70 and 357s are much cheaper when you reload. I recently started casting my own lead for the 45/70 which will save a good amount of money as well but I am still getting the hang of casting.
