How many rounds do you need in a CCW?

No matter how many rounds you carry in an autoloader, I believe in carrying an extra magazine. The magazine is (I believe I'm correct in saying) the most vulnerable part of your whole shooting apparatus. I would hate to have a mag go wrong and then suddenly have a single shot handgun.
 
A gun with ten shots is only part of the equation in a gunfight. If you can't hit what you shoot at, 10 shots doesn't mean a thing. Shot placement is more important than how many shots you have. You also need to be physcologically prepared as well. Finding cover. Assessing how many perps there are and dispatching them if necessary. Maybe trying to find a way out if you can. Being able to keep a cool head during a bad situation is important too. There are many factors that have to be considered. I have been in several gunfights and I think that I attribute my success in surviving them to the training I received. I practiced my gunskills and read what ever I could find on the art of the gunfight and prepared myself. I worked out scenarios in my head. I did what I could to be prepared for any eventuality. My training paid off because when the time came I was able to do what was necessary to survive the situation. It reqires all of these things to be successful in a gunfight. Just having a gun with 10 + 1 isn't enough! Just my .02 on the subject.

Oh and by the way this was accomplished with a S&W model 13 with 6 shots. ( I also carried two HKS speed loaders also.)

When I used to carry my model 36 S&W I carried the five in the cylinder and usually had a speed loader with five more. Probably the first five would have been all that was needed, but who wants to take chances? Now when I carry, I have my Kimber with 6+1 and than a spare full size clip with 7 in it.
 
I carry a S&W 60 with 5 rounds of Federal 125gr JHP in .357mag with a speed loader filled with 158gr+P LSWHP .38spc.
