how many people do you see carrying?

Most of the people I've noticed carrying are those with fanny packs or photographer's vests. I see people with cargo shorts or Hawaiian shorts and often wonder if they're carrying, but I don't think I've ever seen an imprint.

I saw A guy yesterday He had A Short 1911 stuffed in his left rear jeans pocket muzzle up tight jeans. Have no idea how long it would take to draw it?

I don't look, and I don't care. I don't look for good guys, I look for bad guys. Besides, unless the person accidentally flashes, you may SUSPECT, but you never KNOW, so what's the point?

What you people really SHOULD be looking at is the guy who makes your hair stand on end or the crowd of people who look like they're out hunting trouble.

I look for those guys too, but I figure why limit myself? If SHTF, and a fellow CCW'er draws beside me, I'd like to think I've already assessed that guy and decided he's on my team.

I simply make it a point to quickly glance over each person I see out in public. A marine on here once had a sig line that read something to the effect of: "Be professional, be polite, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet", and I think that sort of fits what I'm talking about. The person who makes my hair stand up on end gets my attention for sure, but the soccer dad next to him in the check out line deserves a quick look over as well.

I see many young guys trying to CC under a long t-shirt but printing like crazy. I only started noticing because that's how my son carries in warm weather.

When I see a guy with a fannie pack that's out of context with the situation, or a gal (like my wife does) clutching a leather holster-handbag, I assume there is a CCW in there somewhere. There has to be.

And in my environment, old white haired guys like me are pretty much all carrying. But I never see the weapon.

I 100% agree with Keltyke.

i threat assess EVERYBODY i see, soccer mom, to bum on the corner.

if you can spot the guy with the gun, you know:
a) that he is a good guy
b) that he is a badguy.

how can you tell?

you cant so you keep aware of him.

I saw or surmised a "Mexican carry" just off the gun department at Wal-mart last week. Ironically, the guy was Mexican. I wouldn't have known except for the distinctive way he fidgeted (straightening his carry).

There are a lot of people who carry in my area, Eastern Washington State. I do not see them very often, primarily because most people think they are safe around here, which is mostly true.

I have to wonder how many people around here who have their permits (which by the way are SO EASY TO GET) actually have their gun on them.

Mine is on me as much as possible. There are times I just cannot dress around the gun/hide it well enough, so I don't carry. That is rare however. If I am not carrying, I always make sure my tac knife is avaialble. Last resort.

Been a lifer in the Phil Marines and been assigned to a lot of hot spots here in the Philippines (Im a Filipino), you see, one give away for a first timer to carry guns is that they are very uneasy, their body movements always a dead give away. Another is that lots of people here in the Philippines have legal permit to carry a handgun, point is always look for that somebody that will ring a hell of a lot of warning bells in your head (if you know what i mean). And before I forget, its 11:59 Dec. 2008 from where I am now, HAPPY NEW YEAR GENTLEMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHOOT SAFE.

110%

Phil Marine, I shot IPSC with lots of Filipino's, (in Canada no CCW) and it was amazing to see these short wee guys (mostly) handle full sized 1911s.

Beat the pants off me!

I was having lunch at the mall food court the week before christmas and noticed a fellow at another table had sat down to eat and his cover shirt had pulled up a little, exposing about 2 inches of his OWB holster.

I finished eating, then walked over, introduced myself, and explained that his carry method was lacking a little bit, only to be informed that he was a state trooper and I should mind my own business...

and you guys can recognise every threat on the street?

many of the serial killers/mass murders were "the perfect neighbor", or the "nicest guy"

if you are only watching the obvious crazies out there you are going to be unpleasantly surprised.

I've been jumped for saying this here before but here goes again.
I enjoy playing spot the CCW.
Often leads to good conversations.

To the OP, she was cute and carrying? Did you get her number? You're slowing down....

Other than people I know that carry and LEOs I have only seen 1 that I am 100% sure was carrying. I was at Target last Friday (12/26/08) while the ladies were looking at baby clothes I spotted a guy wearing an orange shirt carrying OWB covered. It was so obvious that I thought even the ladies would have noticed. Not A Freaking Clue.

PS,
To the guy from Target if your on this site I think it is time to consider an IWB holster. Just a thought.

I've seen a fair number but since AZ is an open carry state even people carrying concealed often don't try that hard. Like a few others have said, I like to play "spot the ccw" mostly as an exercise in keeping alert. It's amazing what else you notice along the way.

I usually give everyone around me a casual once over, but I really have never tried to actively located the CCWs around me. If I see something during this initial look that doesn't sit right then I pay that subject more attention. I guess like most people I also profile a little. If it looks like a duck.......:)
