How many of you "stocked up" because of a new law???

In the purest sense, what you say has some truth. However, I did not make any "panic" buys, rather, I made some accelerated buys of handguns which I either wanted or felt would be good to have.

Do you remember the buying sprees which preceeded the assault weapons ban and a few other such national and state laws? Pending bans and prohibitions serve only to make people buy more of that object. Some buy wisely while others buy foolishly. But, once the ban is in effect, you have second chances. However, unless private sales are not further prohibited, one can always divest themselves of an unwanted firearm, generally at a good price. You win, and the person who buys it at least has a chance to buy something they want but cannot get commercially.

The point I am trying to make is to buy intelligently and don't fall for the madness of crowds.

It is not always true that if you buy a gun that then becomes restricted you will make money because of scarce supply. In California, for instance, many people paid inflated dealer prices for so called assault weapons. Now, if they want to sell them they can't resell them within the state. They have to sell them outside the state (where the dealer prices have always been lower). One of the things that the anti's will try to do is to take away the scarcity value by restricting who you can sell to in the legal market. They are more devious than you give them credit.

For those who are speeding up purchases they would normally make, this post doesn't apply. However, there are a lot of people (most who won't admit it), who were motivated to buy something by a dealer "buy it before its gone", that they probably didn't want in the first place.

I think for now on you have to have a "measure twice, cut once" philosophy when it comes to buying guns. Only buy something that you will be happy with for the rest of your life.

I don't own any guns whatsoever. None. Nope. Not a one. :)

But, it has been said that the recent firearms laws (particularly those in CA) put more firearms on the "street" in one year, than would have been sold in more than a decade without the law.

I have quite a few expensive hobbies and although I owned a few guns and wanted more there was always something more important. I would tell myself "I already have some guns, and although they are not very good, I'll get that 9mm some other time, I don't really need it". Well the commie mommie march happened during my vaction and although I ran up my bills during vacation, I went out and got a new glock, a new hunting rifle, and a .38 spec. revolver, all in about 2 months. Plus in my outrage I've started participating in various gun BBS. Now I want an SKS, and new shotgun, and yet another rifle, and a .22 pistol. I don't see anything wrong with "planning ahead". I don't regret any of my purchases. Rosie made me reevaluate my priorities and I saw that they were not in order, that's all. I think it sends a message to the lawmakers when that happens also.

In the next 6 months, I intend to buy: 1) a .454 or .50 pistol, 2) .50BMG, 3) AR15, 3) HK91.

Any good places to get these from? And version of those pistols would you recommend?

After all that, I intend to get at least ONE class III. (recommendations apprciated).

And not to forget, I'm going to start reloading.

All this so my kids have a shooting legacy in the years to come.

gitarmac, addicting isn't it....

Dennis, good luck on that class 3. I would never have a chance in MA.

FPrice, correct me if i'm wrong but I am under the assumption that even LEO's can't buy certain new Glocks, HK's & others unless it is for duty use. They need an official letter of release from the LEO's commanding officer. Now THAT's pretty ridiculous.

Mr. Blonde,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this. I spoke with my local dealer today and he stated that the law does NOT require an LEO to have a letter from their chief to buy a handgun. He went over the new law with me and all it requires is that the buyer be an LEO "OR" Military (more on this later).

He went over the order form he uses to obtain a pistol from Camfour. All he has to do is put the LEOs name on it plus a copy of the LEOs ID card. This is all the authorization needed for an LEO to buy a pistol. He has done this for several LEOs without a problem or question

Part of the confusion may come the fact that FEDERAL LAW regarding the LE purchase of an assault weapon requires a department letterhead authorization from the chief. However the new Mass AG directives do not spell this out. The only state LEO or Military.

The second part may allow me to purchase a new G36. I am an active reservist and am on active duty orders from time to time. While on active duty orders I have all active duty priviledges. We are going to try and see.

Interesting... I got this from my friend's site

"Note: Members of the New England law enforcement community used to be able to buy these under the "Individual Officer" program. However, under the new regulations we cannot sell them to you unless you have a sworn statement from your commanding officer stating that it is "FOR DUTY USE"."

Here's the link http://www.fsguns.com/fsg_new_hg.html

I have not spoken with him on this issue though Frosty but that is where I got my info.

That's good news to hear because if I was a LEO, I'd be pretty pissed if I couldn't buy my own duty weapon for personal use.

Regards

I don't overreact, so when I heard that Clinton et al were thinking about going after reloading components, I didn't go out and buy enough powder and primers for every caliber I own to last many years. Why should I? I don't own any guns.

I now have a Glock G36 on order. My dealer checked again and says it is prefectly legal for me, as a military member, to purchase it.

The downside is that in order to pay for this I have to sell a perfectly nice Sig P229.

I bought a used AB-10 (the post assault weapons ban version of the Tec-9) just because I wanted to be politically incorrect and if they ever do decide to really restrict their ownership, then I think I might be able to get a good return on my $150 investment on the street.

"I never bought anything I didn't want because I love all
firearms except for SNSpecials."

Any screwdriver may turn the screw. When your poor, disadvantaged life is being threatened you care little for brand names. Affordability is not synonymous with functionality in all cases.

Some folks can only afford "SNS" and have the same right to self defense as anyone.
