I routinely carry, and at home, it is often a full sized semi-auto outside the waistband, which may or may not be covered depending on the time of year. I always have a pocket gun, but prefer to carry and shoot full sized.

When friends or family visit I conceal as I do in public, simply because not everyone I know is comfortable with it, especially with children around. Yes it is my house, but I can make this minor modification for the few liberals I know.

I open carry at home whenever service/contractors visit, since that and the dog send a polite message.

Some place weapons in each room, instead of carrying, each to his own.

Though we live in a safe neighborhood, I know that violent drug related crimes are much more prevelant and not published in our area.

When I am at home it is openly carried, except when there is mixed company in my home, then it is covered. During our New Years party, I had people here that I didnt know that other friends brought over, so of course it was concealed at all times. But all of our friends and family know that there is a weapon of some sort on me at all times when i am at home.

Privatet message from Chris

Chris , I got your message but lost it some how. I see what you mean about deterrent sounds like it worked. I never like to attract attention to my self I like to stay hidden in plain sight. If that is possible for an old fat guy.

Only two places I can think of where I'd ever have occasion to open carry-- at the shooting range or hunting in the field.

At home, I conceal carry if I just came home. If I haven't left and returned, I have a handgun quickly accessible, but I don't typically carry one unless I'm headed out. But when I get home, I tend to leave it on unless I change clothes or go to bed.

Oops, forgot the second part. Yup, carry when I have guests over. It's like practice for staying concealed.

I carry concealed just cause that's what I have as far as holsters. I usually do carry at home since I live in such a small apartment that there's no time to get to a weapon should the door get busted down.

Open carry at home all the time, no matter who's there. If I go out and throw a coat on, it's concealed.

Socrates, ROFL, and well said!:D

Call me overly cautious, but I pretty much carry all the time. I'm an officer and try to be prepared at all times. I either have my glock 27 on my ankle or my 23 on my side. Me and my brother both are officers so our families have just kinda gotten use to us always having a gun either openly on our side, or hidden somewhere on our person. My in-laws even accept me wearing one in their home, finally. I literally never go anywhere without it. If I'm cutting the grass, if I'm at church, or just waking up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, I always have one of my guns with me.

PS. I'll never forget the time that I was walking to my mailbox and a vehicle recklessly pulled into my driveway. I had my sidearm on and drew but kept it slightly behind my leg and pointing down toward the ground. As the guy got out of his vehicle he obviously knew that I was a police officer and started hysterically explaining himself. He had two bullet holes in this side of his car and he told me that some individuals where chasing him and tried to kill him. Just as he finished, the vehicle started coming down the road in front of my residence. I had him take cover behind a large tree in my yard as I ran to another tree closer to the edge of the roadway. I positioned myself to return fire if needed, but the vehicle continued speeding down the road without slowing down. My patrol car usually sets in the driveway but wasn't that day. Obviously the guy(s) that shot at the boy knew I was a officer and saw me preparing for them as I ran toward the tree and edge of the roadway. I'd like to think that me being prepared that day saved one if not both of our lives.

I did not answer your poll simply because the way i read your intent i cannot with your poll questions . I carry , I carry at home , I carry when friends are over , I dont however open carry tho it is legal in my state . Even on the farm my .22 will replace my normal carry piece if i figure that shooting may arise. Other than that i just plink with my carry gun . Most around here have an idea i carry ( small community and i am a guntrader ) but its like smoking , ok to do it if you choose but dont inflict it on others .

I got my asbestosis underoos on so yall go ahead lol .

LOL, trust me.. I have worked two home invasions that were not pretty. If its going to happen, it will happen when you least expect it or when your not prepared. I especially refuse to be a victim in my on home.

I usually have my 1911 on my side when I'm just sitting around the house. I don't do this because I'm worried about people breaking in and me not having time to get to the bedroom. I mainly do it because I'm too lazy to take it off when I get home. I also smoke, and I do make sure I'm armed when I go outside because the neighborhood I live in can sometimes be described as a war zone and my driveway is big, long, and I guess it's the place to hang out with the home boys. So mainly I just do it because I don't want to be taking off and putting the holster back on every 10 minutes.

I live about an hour away from work, and the few friends I have in my home town have moved away. When the wife, or the wife's cousin (who lives with us) have friends over I carry however I was carrying when they arrived. I don't go out of my way to put a gun up because someone who doesn't pay the rent or any of the bills doesn't like it.

The poll doesn't have the option of what I do. When I carry at home, it is concealed. Otherwise the gun is in the locked safe.

Hey guys. I'm somewhat new to the forums here, and this is my first post.

I have guns readily available at home, and I don't conceal until someone knocks. I live in a nice neighborhood, but lately, one of the houses on my street has had some problems. So like I said, I don't carry in the house until there's a knock on the door, then I conceal.

....guns in the home....

Can't speak for anyone but me.......

I don't carry. Calif won't give out a CCW in L.A. unless 'due cause' can be verified. It also illegal to carry a loaded firearm in public here.

On a side note- Stashing firearms around the house in unsecured ways, esp. in Calif., is a good way to end up in prison.
If a child (anyone under 18) finds one of my guns and takes it outside, or, causes harm it's off I go in handcuff's for a very long time.

I know of some that stash loaded firearms in every room. I don't and can't be in everyroom at once, esp when company comes over.
My rule? If it aint within reach, it is unloaded and locked up.

Period.

A blade gets the call for 'suprises'.

IF I know what's coming, the 12ga get's the first nod and the perp is 3 steps inside the door minmum before the BOOOM.
The last thing he might hear will be sound of a round racking.
