How many of you just want to make noise??

I've had a question posed to me several times these week and I'm curious... How many of you just shoot to make noise?? I was asked something to the effect... "Why to spend so much time and money making your guns accurate?" The only answer I have is that I like hitting small targets at long distances.. So people of TFL.. What say you???

I don't care about the noise, a suppressed firearm seems just as much fun as a loud one to me.

The only answer I have is that I like hitting small targets at long distances

+1

There are many times I like converting dollars to decibels, but not with my precision rifle (for which I use a can)...on the other hand AR15s are great for noise.

I am not a long range shooter yet, but first and formost i like the act of shooting... hitting what I intend to hit. I do, however, enjoy shooting guns that make loud noises.

Fender Stratocaster is for making noise.
Installing holes at precisely chosen coordinates is what firearms are for.

It really depends on the day and my mood,,,

Some days I go to the range and it's serious target prcatice.

Other days I go and I'm simply playing with "directional fireworks".

Fortunately the fireworks days are usually also .22 days,,,
So making a lot of noise doesn't cost me a fortune.

When I am wanting volume,,,
I haul out the S&W 629.

Yes Sir. The range I go to most often is only open Fri. Sat. Sun. and Mon. I like going on Mondays because there are very few people there, and the ones that do go are the “noise maker” type. They set up targets at the 100 yard line as big as a basketball and blast away. My 100 yard targets have 12 squares that measure one half an inch each. These guys that blast away at huge targets are simply amazed that I aim at and regularly hit a target only half an inch. In a fifteen minute range hot session, I usually get 10 rounds down range. These “noise maker” types probably get 30 to 40 shots down range. I get a kick out of it.

made noise for twenty years in a muscle car with a 462 cubic inch engine, big tube headers, and 2.5" exhaust. Used to set off parked cars' alarms when I drove by, and when I started it up at 5:30am to go to work, we'll let's say I was the neighborhood alarm clock :D

Noise is fine and all but to me, it's the end product. If that V8 made 100 hp, 150 lb/ft and sounded like that, well, that's embarrassing. But since it has 400hp, 520 lb/ft, and sounds like that, well, having something to back up the noise produces greater satisfaction ;)

Noise? Clay pigeons at 170yds with a .22. Deafening.:D

Small targets at distance is what it's all about, but we use stuff, not targets. Clay pigeons, steel, anything that will break or ring when struck. When the pigeons are broken, we start on the pieces. Less than 170 yds we like the 22s, farther away we break out the centerfires.

I use ear pro at the range all the time. ;)

Have you ever shot a M240 with out ear pro? I went through 200 rounds and it was awesome!!! I'll never do it again though. :D

Quiet:Loud

I'm way out of the middle. I love super quiet and super loud. If I want quiet, I preffer a Single-Shot Savage Arms Silenced with .22LR in Subsonic. And if I want loud I preffer a Keltac PLR-16 With a Flash Enhancer. The Ratio is Super Quiet:Super Loud.

rr2241tx, i disagree with your statement, Fender Stratocasters are for making brilliant art pieces, especially if your Mark Knopfler. I'd say A horrible Dean or BC Rich is for making noise.

Ammo costs to much to just make noise with, I prefer to shoot targets or small furry things. If someone just wants to make noise they'd be better off with a horrible 4stroke motocross bike, now that makes noise.

I enjoy firearms not just for the noise but the sum of the parts: the sound, the recoil, the flames, the destruction, the history, the accuracy/precision, the manipulation of your environment, the competition, hunting, etc.

Sometimes though the boom that reverberates in your body also invigorates the soul.

I'll use shotguns for noise :D

Set up multiple targets and try to get a shot on target for each one, maybe 3 in 2 seconds or so. Just as a goal.

I don't blast away with disregard to whether or not I hit a target, regardless of what I am shooting.
