4-years combat action, hand gun. some shot gun and carbine. This competition is timed with penalties for misses and course of
action errors. Safety violations your out -
maybe for ever. CCW, Advanced handgun, advanced shotgun. Can not place a value high
enough on training, particularly on safety.
Thought I new alot when I started but, very
quickly,I learned how all around bad I was.

Ok - I can boost some friends:

NRA Personal Protection
NRA Instructor class - pistol from KRtraining
LFI-1
SDSI - Defensive Handgun II - www.sdsinet.com
- tell them I recommended them
SDSI - Defensive Shotgun
A semester of Skeet at a local college
TX DPS CHL class - once and renewal
Insights - Street and Vehicle Tactics,
Defensive Knife I
From KRTraining - www.krtraining.com - mention me also. I get nothing from this by the way.

Beyond the Basics - Pistol
Advanced Tactical I
Advanced Tactical IA (night firing)
Advanced Tactical II
Advanced Tactical III - injured shooter drills
- which was needed as I took it with a broken
wrist and ribs. Interesting experience.

My buddies at SDSI have been written up in Combat Handguns and SWAT and KRtraining was in Women and Guns.

Man am I out of place here.Looks like a lot of people with a lot of money here.I only live 25 miles from gunsite and can't even aford a course there.Spend all my money on reloading components and shoot them all up.

Yes, various courses - about 80 hours over the last 18 months. Well worth it. Learned a great deal, had fun, and definitely feel much more confident with a number of firearms.

Do it - money well spent.

Many courses are available on nights and / or weekends. Ask around to get personal references re: good courses / instructors.

Have to mention here that TFL has provided my educational foundation, at a very attractive price. ;) Our community here is so very kind and generous with their great advice. Wouldn't trade my TFL education for anything.

Also, invest in books. There are quite a few good ones.

Recently someone mentioned a great place for handgun training in Illinois, but I didn't get the name of the school--anybody know this one?

New Zealand Mountain Safety Firearms course, (mandatory to get a firearms licence here)

Obtained a tertiary educational qualification as Firearms Safety Instructor and Ammunition Advisor when the qualifications became available a couple of years ago, also trained as a Mountain Safety Council firearms instructor.

As far as practical shooting goes, N Z Pistol Association training in safety officer, range officer and holster qualification.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, New Zealand Police Firearms instruction (40 hours initial, 16 hours a year since 1993, and qualified as N Z Police Range Control officer.

BTW, N Z Police is an "unarmed" police force, but unlike the British bobby everone has to qualify annually and access is given to firearms when required. I am based in a small rural town and authorised to carry in the vehicle at all times.

Qualified SSAA Range Officer

My Dad -- ex-Navy Gunner -- gave me the nest training of all.

Glad to hear that, Bruce. Such is the case with me and my father. I've taken government sanctioned and required firearms training. But from one generation to another, knowledge is passed down. I was taught nothing in the military, or hunter safety classes, or CCW classes that I hadn't already learned from my father. Of course, he wasn't government approved.
