How many of you have actually had to do this?

Has anyone ever not taken enough ammo, forgot it or lost it and had to buy ammo from some Country Hick Store in some One Horse Town?

I have. I had to stop and buy .22lr on the way to the range once because I forgot to put it in the truck. I'm glad I remembered on the way or I would have had to backtrack 20 minutes or so to get it.

That wasn't as bad as getting there without magazines for my AR or 1911 though. AR's are a pain to single load without a mag and I won't even try to shoot my 1911 without one.

Old Grump-
Richland Center Wisconsin, (S.W. corner of the state) at a Coast to Coast which is no longer in business. I really miss it. I like hardware stores where you walk in and they know your name and have a pretty good idea what you need

Nope, this was up just outside Amberg, far N.E. corner of the state. Darn near a six hour drive from Richland Center. If you ever get the chance to get close to Oostburg, stop in the Ace Hardware there. Old family run place that sells reloading supplies (more than Cabela's carries at their store) and sells used & new guns. Heck when the primer shortage was going on, he had a garage full, but would only sell you a brick a week so that everyone had a chance at 'em. I drove the hundred or so miles from my house just to get 'em.

As far as buying guns in regards to common ammo in podunk city, most of mine are pretty obsolete, makes 'em more fun to develope them. But, got a bunch of camp guns that I purchased specifically with common calibers because of gas station availability....just in case.

I've forgotten most everything possible on hunts over the years, except my gun, I have never forgotten to bring a firearm (yet).

That's why now I leave three cartridges/shells for each gun I commonly hunt, and a copy of my license (ours are print off yourself type here in GA now), in my hunting backpack, the same in my Jeep. Generally, I keep 20-50 cartridges in the Jeep for any gun being actively hunted.

I've learned the hard way that this is something to consider.

In the past, I've had great difficulty finding 7.62x25 and 7.62x54R. It really bugs me to have to leave guns at home, whereas for other guns I can just hit Walmart on the way out out of town and buy all of the .30-30, .30-06, 9mm, .22 lr, and 12 gauge I care to.

This theory is most applicable for those of us who live where there is only one stop light in town.Cuz out here yonder in Gods country you will mostly find 30/30,30/06 12 guage and .22
