3 low-caps (two that came with the gun, 1 that a friend gave me) and 3 hi-caps. And if I found any more factory hi-caps for cheap, I'm sure I'd pick one up. ;)

Depends on if it is purely a range gun or not. Favored ones probably get more magazines. (But I love them all).

I like to get at least five or six mags per gun. I shop around and look for quality and then contend with price. If the magazines will be hard to come by in the future, in my opinion, then I'll buy more!

Ya can never have to many/much magazines, ammunition or pistolas. The answer is: as many as you can afford.

I have anywhere from one to 7 mags for each gun. Usually around 5, though. Always hi-caps. I don't think I've ever inserted a 10 round mag into a gun (except my 10/22, where 10 rounds is standard).

If you are serious about that particular handgun, I wouldn't go with less than four. Two sets of four is even more ideal. Occasional shooters and plinkers may vary.

Damn now this got interesting.....

You guys seem to have 5 or more for each gun. I have only two for most of mine with my USP9 having three (two 10rd'ers and one high-cap)

Damn I need to buy some more mags to catch up!!!!

I may have misunderstood

I voted for three but that is the number I CARRY. One in the pistol and two spares. I like to keep at least double the number I'm carrying in order to rotate them and in case one goes belly up on me.

Minimum number of magazines- - -

Three.

One in pistol, one spare carried, and one at home "resting."

If something happens to one, you still have the one spare until you can obtain another. This is a MINIMUM for a working/defense piece.

A piece that sees a lot of range or match use needs more, certainly.

A service piece, where the regulations/working enviornment mandate carry of two reloads, would require a couple more.

I'm not talking about what would be NICE, just what I consider a basic number with which to function normally.

Best,
Johnny

For any gun I even consider carrying: seven. Two for carry, and two to swap out routinely. The other three for training. This is a minimum. More as replacements for damage is a good idea. Stay safe.

Six - 2 on me, 2 in the car, and 2 in the office. You may notice I don't have 2 for home, because if I'm at home, why am I using a handgun? :D

Heck, the more the merrier! I have less for my carry guns (usually 3) and I can never have enough for my house/what-if gun... So I rounded and voted for 4. Since my house gun is also the gun I use for tactical matches, and since it's an HK with mags being $40 a piece, I plan to buy 2 or 3 ProMags at $24 a piece for all that constant dropping out onto the concrete floor!

My minimum number of mags is six. Two sets of "one in the gun, and two spares":). Whenever possible, I like to carry standard capacity magazines. (I dislike the Liberal anti-gun Socialist term Hi-Caps  )

I go for a minimum of three at first if the mags are easily available. Then I get more if, and when, they go on sale or I can find them used.

Of course, all plans are subject to revision. I bought a BHP 3 weeks ago and already have 8: the 2 10-round mousetrap mags that came with it, 3 13-round Mec-Gar and 3 17-round South African.

Magazines

The mininum # of magazines I have for a gun is three. I would never be happy with less than 3. I prefer more though, I have as many as 6 magazines for some pistols.

This is a good reason to have more than one gun that uses the same magazine..........

For the Colt Government Model and the Combat Commander, I have 16 of the 7-round Wilson magazines and a few magazines of lesser quality that I use occasionally on the target range.

It makes it nice that any of the magazines work in both guns!

Because in target shooting, it would be good if you have at least 6 mags with 8 feed. So, I keep that number of mags for my 1911. But for my 9mm's and other brand that are sold with 2 magazines only and hard to find around, it will just remain to have 2 magazines since it was purchased. If I am carrying, 3 mags is enough "1 standard 7 feed, and 2 McCormick Power 10, thus I have only a total of 27 bullets on hand for self defense.
