how many calibers do you own?

I simply don't understand the appeal of the 380 carry gun when there are excellent 9mm out there. S&W's shield, the MPc, XDM etc.
Every 380 carry gun I've shot is just unpleasant and I refuse to carry something that I cant take to the range and shoot several hundred rounds through and effectively train with.

But to answer your question.

and I reload for all but the .22lr and 410.

22LR
40SW
10mm Auto
44 Rem Mag
45 Auto
45 Win Mag

I handload them all except for 22LR of course.
The 40SW and 10mm share dies and bullets as do 45 Auto and 45 Win Mag, so it's a little bit less to keep track of than 4 calibers, looking at it that way.

I don't enjoy shooting 22LR in the least, and while I love shooting 44 Mag, I'm not a big revolver enthusiast and get quite a bit more fun out of shooting the Grizzly in 45 Mag. So, while there's 6 calibers listed, I could be perfectly happy with just 10mm and 45 Auto or 10mm and 45 Win Mag.

The 10mm is pretty much a dream cartridge for me--and would likely be the last one I'd choose to give up if I felt I had to consolidate yet could still handload. If our current leaders make it impossible to do that and I have to buy ammo over the counter, then 45 Auto would be my single-caliber inventory largely because I can't shoot any handgun better than I do my M&P45c.

In your situation and with your own comments, 9mm seems like the obvious choice. The number of choices in that caliber is so ungodly vast (ammo and firearms both) it seems you could just do so much better. But, unless you shoot a lot, I probably wouldn't let having to buy ammo be a huge factor in the decision. I imagine 380 Gold Dots will be around for quite some time.

I currently have .357 and 9mm. I am getting a new carry gun and have been debating going to .380 and just hate the fact that I need to invest in more ammo in another caliber - ugh, and 380 is more money than 9mm and less available.
Now, after pointing out how boring a single caliber life is, let's get to your real issue.
Are either your 9MM, or 357 Magnum in a platform that can be used for CCW?
If not, then you are planning to purchase a gun for that purpose.
What method of carry do you intend to use?
Why are you considering a 380?
Where tye 380 shines is in deep concealment. Very well suited for pocket carry. However, there are some really compact 9MM Luger pistols that a lot of people are comfortable with in their pocket. Either caliber of course in a good pocket holster like the DeSantis Nemesis.
But for say IWB (inside waste band) carry, those small 9MM pistols, and larger guns, even larger calibers, are very easily carried, comfortable, and concealed in a good hybird holster.
So maybe a bit more information about your needs would help ger more pertinent answers.:D

22LR
380
38 Special
40 S&W
44 Magnum

Nothing I really need to add in order to feel complete, but I do want to add 45ACP.

To answer, I will be carrying IWB at 8/9 oclock (im a lefty). I currently have a taurus PT111 but its just a bit too heavy with 12 rounds of 9mm. Its a great gun otherwise. I am a skinny guy and it pulls my belt down a bit. The handle also sticks out somewhat with a tshirt. I am back and forth between the glock 43, glock 42, and sw shield and I cannot make up my mind. I shot the 42 last week and it was awesome. so easy to control and I could also pocket carry. If I went 42 I would have to start buying the 380 but I feel like if I am going 380 I should just get the a true pocket gun and for now get the 9mm since its IWB.

The Shield would be a great choice for your IWB carry. Then if adding a 380 pocket pistol later go full on mousegun with a Ruger LCP, or Kel-Tec P3at.
