How many bullets can I legally carry?

I was thinking about getting a CHL in Texas. I was looking at the handbook of laws on the DPS web site. I could not find anywhere in there how many bullets you can carrry in your gun. I was told that the limit is 10 per magazine. My question is does anyone who has a CHL in Texas know for sure what the rule is?

I'm not familiar with any state that has a limit on the amount of carried ammunition. I seriously doubt Texas has any regulation.

Some states (New York, California, New Jersey, and Hawaii) have a restriction to 10 round magazines. Most other states you can carry as many as will fit in the magazine.

Double check with your state regulations to be sure.

This is why 9mm is soooo much better then .45acp- just think of the weight difference when carrying 300-500 rounds ;)

I haven't heard any restriction in Kali, if you have preban mags, flaunt'em :)

I'd think that LEO would be very concerned if he found that you had 23 mags circling your waist though.

Thanks for the input. I am looking everywhere on the net and just can't find the answer. I guess I will ask a CHL instructor. I would like to carry my glock 23 with my hi cap mag of 13 rounds of gold dot ammo.

As far as I know, only Virginia has regulations on how much ammo you can carry IN your firearm (20 rounds).

I can tell you 100% for sure, Texas has no limit.

Maybe you literally need slapped in the face with the answer then.

the answer is that there's no limit in texas

maybe you dont speak english

in spanish:
no hay límite en Tejas

in french:
il n'y a aucune limite dans le Texas

in german:
es gibt keine Begrenzung in Texas

in japanese:
テキサスに限界がない

I've even taken the liberty of posting the answer in large underlined text and multiple languages for easier finding. If you are still having trouble, I suggest an eye doctor.

Thanks for being a Jerk.

So.....I will just risk breaking the law because you say it is OK. I was just wanting someone to site a web page or statue not just "I THINK SO". Sorry judge I thought I could because some guy on a forum said so.

You are a victim of your own sloppiness and poor planning.

Since there is no magazine restrictions in texas, you are asking someone to post a link to a law that doesnt
exist. There is also no law that restricts things like finger grooves on your grip, but to ask someone to prove it would be a waste of time.

first step, think
second step, talk

you mixed up those steps somewhere.

And contemplate the answer to the question, "which weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead."

drpepper,

Here in Texas it's not how many rounds you can carry, nor how many guns you can carry. It's if you can conceal them. You must conceal them from the view of a 'normal person' (whatever that is) and if you are spotted and they call the cops, you can be charged with failing to conceal the gun.

Now there is also the thought that carrying a whole lot of ammunition will become heavy and thus a real drag after a while.

This is why people prefer ligher guns, and lighter ammo (you will find a 8 round .45 auto weighs much less when loaded with 185gr JHPs than when loaded with 230gr slugs.

Anyway, here in Texas carry what you fell like and after a while when the weight gets to be a drag, find what you can realistly carry and conceal.

Thank you all.

I was trying to ask a simple question simply. I was told that I would be limited to 10 rounds in my weapon. I am not saying this person is right, that I can only carry 10. I thought that I would ask you fine folks. I was wanting someone from Texas who has been through the class for a CHL to give me a simple answer. Yes you can carry as many rounds you want in your weapon or No you may only carry this amount.

Thank you all.

and I also understand some may say if you need 100 rounds to hit something then you don't need to carry. I wan't to carry my glock 23 .40 with my 13 round mag or my glock 26 9mm with 10 rounds.

I have my CHL in TX. You can legally carry as many guns and as much ammo as you want. AS LONG AS YOU CAN KEEP THEM CONCEALED.
