How many 1911's are too many?

I don't know. I may have owned a few dozen myself over the last 40+ years. I once visited a well known Luger collector who had hundreds of Lugers, so I'd guess some 1911 aficionados might have as many. I'm now down to a half dozen or so myself, in three calibers by four manufacturers.

There is a simple mathematical formula for this:

T=H+W+1

where T is "too many", H is the number I "have", and W is the number I still "want."

It should be recalculated after each purchase.

The first 1911 I bought after retiring from the navy was a Colt 1991A1. It's a series 80 Colt. It has a friend a Remington in stainless.

I like the Colt better. It is on its third recoil spring.

If 1911s are impeccably reliable, I'm all for them. But I've seen expensive Kimbers and others jam on the firing line.

I've seen every brand of firearm jam on the firing line.

I have 3 two 45's and a 10mm, all 5 inchers. Now, what I really need, is a Combat commander, a 38 super, another 5 incher with combat night sights, oh and I've really been drooling over the new Dan Wesson Bruin.
So many guns so little funds. :(

Only have one at present. However, I have a laundry list that I'd like:

Colt XSE
Colt Gold Cup in .45 ACP
Colt M-45A1
Colt Commander in 9mm
And finally Colt Government Model (post war; Series 70) in .38 Super

I have two a Springfield V16 in 45 Super and a Springfield Pro. I'd like a Colt Defender in 45 ACP and then I'd be done ... maybe ...

As a previous mod used to say, I'm just tryin' to collect the set.
If you had the set I'd say that would be one too many.
