How many 1911's are too many?

Okay I know most will say you can never have to many 1911's. I have four now.But I don't want the same name brands,I know for sure i'm going to buy two more 1911's a Colt & S&W.I would like to have ten 1911's before i'm done with that part of my gun collection. That will take a few years to come to complete the 1911 collection.:D

I see you got to Nam as I was leaving. We were winning when I left. Don't know what you guys did.:)

As to 1911s.....I have four now and think just one more. For now. Or maybe two. :D

If you like 1911s ( I do ) and you are ok with the price, buy it. I have several in .45 and 9mm. I shoot all of them. I do not have any Colts though. I need to fix that:)

I have 3 1911's and one STI 2011. I shoot none of the 1911's, but occasionally the 2011. So, I'd say I have 3 too many. Yet, I like all 3 of them from a collector's perspective, so I keep them.:)

I personally have no arbitrary limit on the number of guns a person should be allowed to own, however it makes zero senses to me why anyone would want multiple copies of the same gun. now, I own 4 AR15s, but, every one of them is a different caliber, some are carbines, some are rifles, some are open sighted, some are scoped, some are free floated, some light, some are heavy, all serve a slightly different role. I think I would do the same with a 1911. I own a springfield range officer, I love it, it shoots great, it's enough 45ACP 1911 for me. I think if I did get another, it would likely be a 9mm/22tcm combo from RIA. I have no use for two handguns that have the same controls, ergonomics, and shoot the same caliber. variety is the spice of life, so I've been told.

I agree the 1911 is a great platform, but I also agree that buying multiple 1911s that are very similar is not attractive to me. I currently own three, but they are all fairly different in style and/or size. I sort of already have my next pick in mind and it is completely different from the other three. Now, this doesn’t mean I would pass up a great deal if one came along, but in general I want things that are in some way unique to my collection.

"Too many" would have to be defined as duplicates.
There's a 1911 variant to suit just about any reasonable job a handgun can do, so until you have one for each job, you can't have too many.

I've only got (5) 1911's, myself. I've got the 5", 4.25" & 3.5" barrel lengths covered.

I've sometimes considered picking up one more, but I have more than enough other guns that serve me well for training & retirement CCW.

If I were going to thin the herd, I'd probably keep one steel and one aluminum-framed model. The lighter weight is handy for all-day carry roles. I have an '05 production SW1911SC 5" that is lightweight on the hip, but still nicely controllable and with the traditional cycling/handling of the 5" guns.

If I had it to do again, I'd probably go with an all-steel 5", and one of the bobbed SW1911E Scandium aluminum-framed "Commanders". ;)

I'm a 'Can't Have Too Many' camp when it comes to 1911s. I currently own 11 of them and it's unlikely I'm done buying. My last few purchases have been 9mms. I have a real fondness for Dan Wessons, followed by Colts. Don't have any higher end like Wilson Combat or Nighthawk but keep thinking I 'need' one.

"...Don't know what you guys did..." Wasn't them. It was the idiots in DC.
Any S&W 1911A1 style pistol is a clone. Commercial 1911A1's(not 1911's) are not exactly collector grade stuff either. So the answer is 2. One for each hand. snicker.

An old friend of mine (now deceased) once told me the hierarchy of the 1911. It went something like this. The man with one 1911 was welcomed through the pearly gates. The man with two 1911s got to sit on the left hand side of God. The man with three 1911s got to sit on the right hand side of God. The man with four 1911s was considered blessed and is able to sit on the throne when God is not using it. Hope I got that right Mike (miss our talks).

I own (2). A Springfield Loaded Govt. and an Officer Model both in 45acp. Not really in the market for another one but who knows. :D

One

Just kidding. I have 5. 7 if you count a chiappa 22 and a colt .380 as 1911s. I've had a few more than that in the past but had to thin the herd. (Safe is too small). I think an even half dozen is good for me.

At one time I had six. Five .45's and one 9mm. I currently only have two in .45 and will probably add a 9mm again one day. I would say having multiple guns of the same platform and caliber is a bit redundant and to me it is but suddenly I find myself looking in my safe at 12 AR's and a couple of complete lowers in need of uppers. Thankfully though non of my AR's are the same.
