How long does Taurus take to fix things?

I bought a used Taurus Tracker in .357 last October. It had Hogue grips, felt and shot nice in my hands. I think I ended up losing the crosspin that holds the firing pin assembly in place in front of the hammer when I took it apart once, because during the winter a couple of months after I shot it the last time, I noticed that there was no firing pin! What a nice surprise! Who knows what the hell I did. I had to send it back to Taurus to get fixed because the shop that I bought it from couldn't order the parts from Taurus. I had this gun shipped to Taurus at the beginning of April 2010. I still haven't gotten it back (it has been almost 6 months) and the dealer who I shipped it through and bought it from says there is no way to really get ahold of Taurus to figure out where they are in the process of fixing my revolver.

I have a receipt of the original purchase and of the transfer to Taurus six months ago. He's about the only gun dealer in town that I know of and I don't want to pester him too much. Is Taurus really this slow sometimes? It's gonna make me avoid Taurus in the future. I'm already thinking about selling this gun if I ever get it back.

Any suggestions?

Call them and ask, the CS # can be found here www.taurususa.

When I sent mine in last year I was given a service number prior to mailing which was referenced throughout the process. They also mailed me a letter of confirmation when they recieved the gun.

Yes they can be really slow at times. Hopefully you have a CS number or a tracking number of some kind. Your best bet is to give them a call and see what you can find out.

Good luck.

if i ever had to ship a gun back to the company for repairs (any company) i would do it myself and not thru a gun store. it is your gun and having a 3rd party listed just complicates things and increases the odds of something going wrong.

This is good advice. I sent a gun into S&W for service thru Pro Bass. It took about 2 1/2 weeks longer than it should have. I found this out by e-mailing the factory sevice center. They told me when they received it and when they sent it back out. Pro Bass took about a week to send it to them and a week and a half to get it back to me. Next time I'll mail it myself.

i bought a new 1911 2 weeks ago had a problem with the slide. called them on monday. fed ex picked it up tuesday. i got it back bout 10:30 today. 6 days for mine

Seems to be getting better

My buddy is a Taurus fan, and had to send his 709 slim back for a broken spring. They wouldn't send it to him, but they did have exactly a week turnaround with free shipping both ways.

I would say that is good in my book.

Again call Taurus direct and find out what is going on with your revolver. Taurus had my Tracker 627 twice for a total of three months. They really never fixed the issue on my revolver.
They do replace guns if they can't fix or they lose them.

Good luck,
Howard

Taurus had my Judge for about 2 month before they gave up and sent me a new one.

I thought the issue was a minor one (the hammer would not lock in to the single action mode) and could be easily fixed but they took 2 months and in the end just sent me a new gun.

p.s. the new one has not had a problem

Quite a few folks out there have learned that "Taurus Lifetime Warrenty" can actually refer to repair time. I won't bore you with the long, tawdry story, but I no longer own any Taurus products. I also keep a garlic necklace and curcifix in case that name comes up in conversation. Also explains the nasty tick.

Thanks all. I think I'll keep this gun if I ever get it back...that is, until something goes wrong with it again. I've gotten a sour taste for Taurus from this. I'll never buy another one. Thanks Taurus! You sure know how to please your customers.

Speaking of Taurus turnaround times.
Has anyone else read this month’s report in NRA magazine on 3 guns from Taurus?
A 380, 9mm and 40sw. All of them had feeding problems,,, all of them.
Followed by a 3 page add from Taurus. Wonder what the turnaround time for NRA will be?
Makes you kind of wonder, if they supply the NRA with the guns and they have problems like these did, what are the remainder of their guns like that hit the market?
I have owned 2 Taurus guns, one of them had problems which I had fixed by a competent gun smith and didn’t sell, and the other I didn’t like and sold.

Sounds like another satisfied Taurus customer.

Really I feel for you that sucks, but there is a reason behind their reputation.

I can't tell you how many times a day I cringe when I recommend a different gun to a customer and they tell me "but I read on the internet how great Taurus is...":barf:

Yes my name says HK fan but I am not that brand loyal, I carry a Sig:rolleyes: sometimes a SW mod. 60.

Turn around times for any company can vary depending the model of the gun, what the problem is, how many people are currently in the plant, ect. Taurus would have an even worse reputation if they didn't offer a lifetime warranty because if people were paying for all these repairs there would be an uproar.

Despite the store I work at where I don't get to make decisions on what we carry, another local shop owner/friend of mine wont even carry Taurus NIB anymore because of his personal dealings with them and his customers guns that needed servicing.

Thanks Taurus! You sure know how to please your customers. LOL

Sounds like maybe the part, or parts needed might be on back order, or maybe they lost/misplaced your gun.
