how do you store your pistol ammo?

i'm trying to find a way to store all of my pistol ammo in factory boxes flush inside of a 50 cal can but it's hard. I'm looking for a neater, tighter way of storing it...how do you store it?

Well I store mine in a metal file cabinet slash storage container, its inside in a climate controlled room so theres not much elements to worry about. They have been store in that cabinet for about 15 years and every time i reach in to grab some ammo it always goes bang. As long as you store em in a dry place it all good.

I leave it in the box and put it on a shelf if it's defensive ammo. Bulk ball ammo I loose pack in an ammo can.

This seems like the easiest way although I'm hoping someone can recommend a technique or something that'll allow for storage inside of a 50 cal for stacking purposes...b ut the method you described is what I've considered doing.

I store all of my ammo in mil surplus ammo cans. I keep seperate cans for pistol, rifle and shotgun rounds. When can gets full I buy another one.

You want to keep it in the original boxes and pack it most efficiently into .50 cal ammo cans?

I don't understand the problem.

I stack it in boxes - on top of my safe ( my reloads )....

If I run ammo in bulk - like shotshells - I dump them loose in 10 gallon rubbermaid containers with lids. They strong enoough to stack about 3 high / but you can get stronger ones too.

To me, ammo cans are a pain in the butt - they're heavy / too big to just take 4 or 5 boxes to the range / too small when you want to take 40 boxes on a shooting trip ....

Mine are all boxed and stacked per caliber and stored and locked in a shelving cabinet next to my safe.

In old ammo cans on the floor in their factory box's and my re-loads in the ammo cans in zip lock bags. life is good

My ammo is stacked next to and on top of my gun safe. Some of it is in bags; some in ammo cans and some in bulk boxes.

I go through a lot of ammo each year. This is nearly all range ammo. I haven't gone in for anything fancy. Some heavy duty metal shelves in the closet of a spare bed room and leave most of it in the cases they came shipped in. Since the 9 mm comes with 20 boxes per case and .22 has 5000 rounds per case this makes taking inventory rather easy to do.

I don't have kids running around the house so I don't feel a great need to lock all the ammo up. That room can be locked when needed. The house is climate controlled and I have not ever had any type of corrosion problem. Then again it doesn't stay on the shelf for years and years either.

I keep all my reloads in ziplock baggies,100-250 rounds each, with the powder name and quantity written in marksalot on the baggie.

It works for me.

I have this room, see?

I, after gauging the round, deposit it directly into a 50-rd plastic hinge-top box from Midway, or a commercial-grade plastic 50-rd tray that when filled goes into a commercial-grade cardboard box from Scharch.

Filled boxes go on shelves.

This years supply +- of ammo is in original boxes and stored on shelves with some supplies.

Longer range ammo supply is in 30mm ammo boxes in either cases and/or original boxes, with a one pound sack of freshly cooked dessicant along with it. If I need somethign out - it goes open and then shut.

Ammo has purchase date sharpied on the box as well, with the oldest on top. Funny part, I have done a few things for my brother lately and he SWORE he did not have a tool of mine 2 weeks back, well yesterday the tool came back along with a box of 38 special - with a purchase date of 5-09 on the box - must be genetic.:D
