how do you keep your gun working like a champ after 10k rounds?

Given that I run 8-10 magazines PER gun I own (I don't like to have to reload at the range ;)), should I ever expect to have to worry about a spring to change on them -- other than one that's somehow gone 'bad' early?

Standard capacity magazines should last a long time. When capacity is increased without a meaningful lengthening of the tube, the springs will likely have a short service life. I've had 8-round "1911" mags wear their springs in as little as two years of weekly use. I suspect you could run 7-rounders for a couple of decades of weekly use.

If its your carry gun, a service every 8K rounds. The most overlooked aspect, is your magazines. Only buy good quality mags for your pistol. Develop a number or color coded system on your mags, and every week let the ones you have kept fully loaded "rest" for a week to ensure that the springs remains in good shape.

Keep a log of everything every you shoot, malfunctions you had, what the load was etc...
