How do you get the slide on a 1911 to lock back w/o a magazine?

Schmackey - That was a class act and a good retort to some responders who showed a little less class than you have. On the other hand, it is good to see that the majority were sincere and trying to be helpful.

CSAY - I know. I was showing a little of the same frustration you were with the less than friendly responses and they only got worse after that.

There is one recommendation I didn't see here, and it's pretty surprising. Whenever I get a new gun, especially one that I'm unfamiliar with the operation, I play with it for some time without any ammo near, just to see what makes it tick. This is a cheap and painless way to find out about the oddities of your pistol.

I collect early 20th Century semi-autos, so I get a chance to see a lot of strange actions. It sometimes takes quite a bit of time to figure out what's really going on with the gun.

BTW, I agree 100% with the comment that there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers! Do people really think that someone is going to ask what appears to be a stupid question if they know the answer???
