How do you feel about CCW insurance? Do you have coverage?

I would like to read something from someone who had to use it.

"it" being one of the services.

Same here. State Farm, and it's less than $300/yr.

some states automatically protect a person from civil suit after they've used their firearm in a non-criminal manner.

Again I'll ask, does this in any way address or help if being faced with legal fees if you are arrested and criminally charged? I was under the impression those umbrella liability policies were only good for being sued in a civil court.

What if anything an insurer can cover in a particular state, and what it covers regardless of its actual provisions, varies from state to state. From the little I know about some so called CCW policies, they are not insurance, although claims made by members of some plans are supposedly covered by an insurer.

I wouldn't purchase any plan without speaking with an insurance broker whom was known to understand the CCW plans available in your state, as well as their ratings and solvency.

I am a member of Armed Citizen's Legal Defense Network, as shown in my sig.

Obviously, I like the way they are set up. I have not had to use their services.

I also have a million dollar umbrella on my homeowner's policy. Frankly, I don't know how it would perform in a self-defense situation. I should probably check.

This is a very good idea. About 15 years ago, the NRA made a statement that the average "righteous" shooting, even when innocent wound up costing $50,000. That was a scary number then & Lord knows what it is now.
Another scary thing is relying on one of the public defense attorneys or one of the bottom feeding sharks that hang around the violence & drug courts, hoping to get a client with some cash in their pockets.

This is the best thread on insurance that I've come across in the few forums that I belong to.

I have asked the same question as the OP on different sites, and almost to the letter I get answers like "I'll just contact my own lawyer, when I need one." No serious thought given to fees, costs and possible fines.

I don't have anything my self, yet. I am seriously leaning towards CCWSafe. For anyone else interested, note that they have a military/veteran discount.

CCW safe

As with all insurance be it car, home etc. we find that it covers a lot of big things but not always the things we expect. The devil is always in the details of how they carefully describe benefits, leave out words or use specific language that isn't always noticeable when you are shopping.

I hope that if something bad does happen that the basics work out as I understand them. If any of it, bail, advice, a lawyer provided, pay while out of work etc. will be welcomed and needed.

If you think about it, CCW safe (not sure about the others) they are pretty smart to only offer it to cc permit holders.

They are already vetted to be good citizens.
They stay out of trouble and as we already know, we aren't the ones that go around shooting people.

So, my guess is that their risk of having a case or spending any money at all, is a very small percentage, probably less than a half percent. So it is a good business model to make money and if they don't honor their promise, word will get around on forums like this and they will be weeded out.

No buyers remorse here. The info they provided made me feel better after the purchase.

no more than saving that because you have car insurance you intended to have a wreck.

then again, that might depend on what state you live in and how anti gun they are.

I also have one of those $1 million riders on my home owners policy.
I got it because I do some hobby Farming and people help me with baling hay, running old farm equipment ect.
Its about the cheapest coverage you can get. I think mine is about 30, 40 bucks a year. I think I am not sure. i know its cheap enough that I dont care if I remember how much I paid.:D
