How do I choose the optimum bullet seating depth?

Here is another two cents on the subject. I also have a .308 Savage Model 12 and just started shooting the NRA mid-range F class at 600 yards

However you are doing it seems to be working for you. I took the liberty of downloading it, and running through Ontarget. You had the horizontal nailed and the vertical is good also. That is my Achilles heel at the moment. Your CEP #'s are decent. I also did a 18 shot analysis eliminating the flyers

Not bad, looks like mr mirage bit you on that 7 & 8. That is pretty much my normal target, sometimes a bit better and occasionally worse

We are getting those electronic targets this spring and I cannot wait.

Lavid2002: I am very unsettled by the post from the standpoint you don't seem to have the knowledge but are jumping into things?

I don't see reference to any manuals? You should have two. I like Hornady and Sierra.
Even Hornady 9 is fine (lower cost) - Lyman is good as well.

Caliber and gun is always a help in the big picture.

For COAL tuning, its best to start .020 off the lands and you can adjust the length form there being very careful going closer in no matter what your load is.

I am not familiar with AR, but some semi auto can fire out of battery.

Tip lengths can vary a fair amount, you may move in to what you think is .010 off and then one will be stuck in the lands (and holding the case OUT).

Bolt action you know, semi auto not.

I got bit by a internet zombie thread oh, the shame.

How can I ever hold my head up again in public? Still it was interesting analyzing the target. That would have been one of my normal targets my first year.

OK,zombie thread. Something I did not see mentioned is this seems like a 30 carbine 110 gr bullet being seated in a 308.
IMO,the jump to the lands is less important than having enough bullet in the case neck.

If you want accuracy from a fairly light 30 cal bullet, try a 155 gr SMK HPBT.
