How confident are you carrying a 1911?

...I've experienced more failures with my 1911's. ...Enough that it has made me a little uncomfortable.

What you need is a case of .45acp, several magazines, some targets and an afternoon to get to know your 1911's. If it needs to be tuned so that it will work, then get it tuned. If you want to carry a 1911, you need to shoot a 1911 as much as possible. If you want to carry a 1911 because other people do, get another hobby.

Guns are a bit like cars. When you buy one new, it comes with a warrany. If something isn't right, you can get it fixed by the manufacturer. If you buy one used and something isn't right, you have to spend a little money to make it right. If you don't like it, sell it and find something you like better.

How confident? 100 percent, or else I wouldn't carry it. And that applies to relaibility as well as hit potential.

polishing the feed ramp is all I needed to do to make my Systema reliably feed hollowpoints.

Like everybody else here has said, if you aren't sure of your Sistema's reliability or aren't sure if you need stuff done to it, then you haven't shot it enough. Let loose with a 500 round case of ammo then get back with us.

It depends on your particular gun re: reliability.
The only thing I would say about the design in general is that I do not prefer 1911's for carry due to snaggy profile and the need to have a safety engaged. That's why my Colt 1991-A1 only gets carried as a backup to my Glock 21.

Osama, Ya Momma.
Media geography lesson: The Pentagon is in Arlington, VA not Washington, D.C.

I am totally confident of my Colt 45 LW Cpmmander. More than 2000 rounds through it without a problem. Its big enough that I carry it only during the months when I wear heavier clothing so I can conceal it. During summer I carry a Kahr that I can conceal under lightweight clothing.
