How are you supposed to buy a gun in California?????

I guess I'll take it.....

Yes, I think I'm getting screwed here.....But here's my logic....

1. It's my first gun. I'm out of my element here, and I just want it to go as smooth as possible. That alone might be worth the extra $$$. I still have to pay $25 dollars to get my worthless 'Handgun Safety Certificate'.

2. It will be NIB, so I'm going to be paying a premium anyway. When I learn more, and start getting comfortable with used guns, I'll be able to get better deals.

3. I do believe in 'supporting my own', If we don't, they'll be out of business, which hurts me. I think this dealer has such a good selection because he bought out another dealer who was forced to close. I'd like to give this guy my business, as I have found, if you want to shoot in this goofy state, you need all the friends you can get! (FFL's, Ammo, etc.). Anything that will make my purchases easier. At least these guys are interested in selling you something! Try going to the 'Outdoor' chain and getting someone to help you.

4. It's supply and demand. If they couldn't get the prices, they wouldn't set them where they're at. Granted, there are political forces at work here, but in the end, it is what it is.

5. As for the voting argument - This state, and this City, are to the point where my vote hasn't counted (figuratively) in the last ten years. California is a reactive State. They react to shooting tragedies by legislation. Our only hope is that enough people wake up and realize that they're only putting illegal guns in the hands of criminals. Keep an eye on San Francisco. Prop H will force ALL GUN OWNERS within city limit's to turn in their guns to the police WITH NO COMPENSATION. The NRA has been fighting that one.

Sad, because were just going to have more poor souls shot up while enjoying their 'Grand Slams' at Denny's.

My reason for starting this post is that I was angry. But, I've calmed down. At least I still have the OPTION to buy a gun. I will exercise it, whatever the cost, before I lose it!

Not for nothing, but my first purchase was going to be a Smith and Wesson, but I figured they'll always be plenty of 'Zit' Smith's out there. Who knows how long Sig can hold out? (I may be mistaken, but I think the mosquito has an internal lock).

fyi, the mosquito has a magazine disconnect, but no "lock" that I'm aware of.

I've recently purchased one, combat green. I'm not a fan of the mag disconnect, but if there is a lock I've never known about it.

Mosquito

Spec sheet says 'Integrated Internal Locking Device' in addition to the Magazine disconnect and the Manual Safety.

I hope Sig is doing this for marketing purposes, otherwise, I'm starting to get nervous!

I dedicate this version of the Beverly Hillbilly song to you guys in California

Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a Californian
A poor Californian, barely kept his guns from the state
And then one day, he was tryin to buy again
And through the legislature come a gun grabbin bill
Antigunners, that is,2nd Amendment haters , Brady lovers

Well, the first thing you know, Californians a cryin
Kin folk said, Californian, move away from there
Said, Texas is the place you oughta be
So they loaded up the truck and they moved to San Antony
No assault bans, that is, M1As', M15s with a 20 round clip

Well, now it's time to say goodbye to the new Texan and all his kin
They would like to thank you folks for kindly droppin' in
You're all invited back again to this locality
To have a heapin' helpin' of their hospitality
A happy gun owner, that is, load a 30 round clip, and let er rip

Wow. I honestly did not know that. I'll have to go back through the manual to see what the hell that is. Whatever it is, it's extremely unobtrusive, and I've never used it

edit: found it, it's just behind the back of the mag baseplate, little slot you can insert a key & turn, if you do, it'll lock it out. needle nose pliers would turn it back. No different than the lock in my USP.

Please be aware that the Mosquito has had multiple problems and is considered a fairly bad buy. Got to sigforum.com and do a search on the Mosquito for details. Some have had good luck, but the horror stories would make me shy away from that model.

Good luck.\

Oh and to answer your original question? How are you supposed to buy a gun in California?????

You are NOT supposed to buy a gun in California. All the hoops you are jumping through are just the beginning, baby!

And I can tell you that mine has been nothing but fantastic. I know this is off the original topic of the thread, but, nothing irritates me more than "I hear it's a bad...whatever" comments. Like any new item, some had issues, some did not. I'm certain one of the ones on sigforum will be the cracked slide, and I'm certain comments of "BUT IT'S ZINC ALLOY" will come soon. I just went to the range yesterday, put several hundred rounds through it, and have several thousand through the pistol since january. Began having some FTE's, just because it was extremely dirty. Cleaned it, and it was fine right after.

All makers of all guns have had some problems.

As to the comments of how to buy in CA, you're right. You aren't supposed to buy in CA, so that they can have a utopian society (for the criminals, anyway)

Glad you are having good luck with your gun -- did not mean to wiz in your cornflakes!!!!:D

I only mentioned this because this is his first gun, and he has already been through enough just trying to purchase -- thought he ought to be aware of the problems with this one while he still had time to change his mind if he wanted to.

Uh folks, I am a little tired of people giving responses like "move outta that state", "come to the south/Pacific Northwest/East coast".

Guess what? a lot of us are born and raised in California, are extremely patriotic, and don't wanna move for these metrosexuals, which is why we are staying here, working on our friends and neighbors, and most important of all VOTE.

Look, how about y'all move out here, enjoy the good weather, relax at the beaches, and help us to beat these gun grabbers? a lot of the gun owners moved out of state but they are ducking the fight and just delaying the battle. Some of us choose to remain and wait for the Judgement Day.

YOu don't have to be brainwashed to love living in California. How about we pull another Hawaii and take it back from the COmmies? Any takers? Nope, you guys are all content sitting in your backyard plinking and try to forget what's going on in parts of the United States of America. So much for the Manifest Destiny....

Well said CALNRA (Hey, I just got that! Nice!)

deadin: I don't know about others, but I can't afford to live in CA.

deadlin, You can't afford NOT to live in CA.

(I don't now what that means, I was trying to be dramatic :D )
