Very nice bucks there, I'm afraid if I saw one like that, I wouldn't be able to hit it.:o This past weekend there was a nice 8 point right on the other side of the fence. I had my scope on him waiting for him to jump, but my heart was beating at about 150. Clayfish, do you know if the inside spread on that one is 13 inches? (Measured from the inside of the 2 farthest points.) My county has a new restriction, and I'm still not sure how to identify legal or non-legal.

To venison_jerky32...from TPWD annual...

Ears in alert position
are approximately
13 inches apart and
may be used to judge
the inside spread.

Thanks for the compliment.

What I thought was neat about this buck was the way the G2 and G3 horns forked like a mule deers. Unusual for my part of Texas.

Here is a better view.

I shot this buck friday with the muzzle loader in the pic.
CVA Optima 50 cal. 150 gr. Pyrodex and 245gr. Powerbelt Bullet.

Well, I went hunting this weekend with a friend of mine. He shot a buck. When we field dressed it we made sure that the inside spread was outside of the ears. When he took it to the processer, the game warden measured 12.5 inches, and he got a written warning. Maybe it was because the buck wasn't mature yet (2-3 years), but they were outside the ears...

VJ32,
What county to you hunt in?
In Menard county (where I hunt) there are no rules about the spread. But then again, we are a 4 deer county. Lots of them around.

On our property we set our own limit at 8pt or better.
I personally don't shoot a large mature buck unless its bigger than whats on my wall. The does and young cull bucks taste much better anyway.

Nice bucks everyone, keep posting those pics.

I'm in 1 of the new (30 or so?) counties in Texas that switched from a 1 buck county to a 2 buck county. You can only take spikes or bucks with a 13 inch spread or greater. Only one "legal" buck allowed, the other must be a spike or a doe. My hunting partner took a buck with a spread outside of the ears, but it was only 12.5 inches, and the game warden gave him a writen warning. I'm not bashing the law or the warden, I will just make sure that when I take my buck it is way past the ears.

I found some more pics of deer on the hoof, that I took last year.
I like taking pics of them also.

Nice Rembrant. They sure grow 'em big in Iowa.

Here's mine from the last two years. I'm hoping to top them this year. We've seen some nice ones already.

What do you do? shoot them at the dinner table, here is MN that is called "baiting" and is illegal, can't be much skill involved, Oybor

I just take a baseball bat to them, isn't that what batting cages are for? No skilled involved.
They are thicker than fleas on my property as the picture shows and I can just sit there and pick out which one looks the most tender.

After I get over the sarcasm......
In Texas it is legal to bait (as you call it) by feed, scent or water. (We don't have the public lands like you do)

I actually use the feeders/blinds for photo opportunities or in bad weather only. We keep them going year round with protein pellets and scratch grain in them. This helps produce better horns and keeps the turkey roosting on our ranch since it is only about 1200 acres. It is also a great way to take a count/study of the population. I prefer to hunt fence lines and game trails.

I will hunt about 300-500 yards away from feeders during the full rut as the big bucks will follow the does to the feeder area, but never go in.

Want to talk about no hunting skill? In Florida it is legal to use dogs to hunt deer and about half the state does. (at least around the Pierson area)

Beautiful pics.
What camera are you using? I am thinking of upgrading to one of the Cannon EOS, SLR models where I can buy a high power lens for it.

How about these for a rub? ;)
