Houston police officer gunned down

But as screwed-up as we think our society is, how bad does it have to be in Mexico for the citizenry of that country to see the US as the 'promised land'?

Who cares? If it's that bad in Meh-hee-ko, they should FIX MEH-HEE-KO, not make it easier for them to leave that bunghole for the U.S.!

Laws need to be changed. Treaties need to be re-examined, and the US needs to buck-up and take a stand against violent crime.

What laws? What treaties? Why not just tell Mexico to get its act together so that its own people don't want to leave it for the U.S.? Improve Mexico -- don't make the U.S. a surrogate homeland for people who can't get a job to provide a decent living down there.

Do illegals commit crimes? Heck yes. Are they all evil-doers who want to see America fall? No.

They may not all be evildoers, and they may not want to see America FALL, but they certainly do seem to be a bunch of people (based on them and their supporters protesting, and what their demands are) who want America to bend over backward to suit them. Otherwise, why do we print all kinds of civil documents in Spanish for them? Why do we provide them medical care, and school for their kids? Why did the paper I work for have to trot out several new spanish-language products after 90 years of being an ENGLISH newspaper?! They may not wish to make the U.S. fall, but it seems clear to me that they wish to make the U.S. over in their own image. I work in an office into which THEY are introducing discord by speaking spanish amongst themselves even though they speak fluent English. I did not go to Mexico/Guatemala/Nicaragua etc. -- THEY came to AMERICA. THEY are the ones who should be making adjustments.

The resentment is as real as if guests came into my home and expected me to rearrange the furniture, cuisine, and other amenities to reflect their own home while they stay with me. My feeling is, "How DARE you?!"

It doesn't matter if he was illegal, white or black. What he did was wrong. You can not stop somebody from commiting a crime if they are commited. I bet every police officer is going to search even for a traffic stop. Police officer's put their lives on the line every day. They need to be more careful. Lesson learned for everyone.

Why did the paper I work for have to trot out several new spanish-language products after 90 years of being an ENGLISH newspaper?!

How did they "have to trot out" a Spanish-language product? Were they forced by the government to do so? Who made them trot it out against their will?

I bet they just figured they want to make some money off the growing Spanish-language population, too.

Vupdblue, I think you may be missing one simple fact of this thread. The man that killed Officer Johnson was here ILLEGALLY.
If not for our weak immigration policy this Officer would still be alive.
Here's an analogy for you:
What if your neighbors dog jumped your fence everyday and whooped the "BEJEEEZUS" out of the family dog?
Would you take the stand that the neighbors dog has a bad life next door and therefore had the right to "STOMP' A' MUDHOLE" of the family pooch in his own yard?
Furthermore, does the color of the neighbors dog make any difference?
It would certainly make none whatsoever to me. I have no responsibility to provide a better life for the neighbors dog, but I have every responsibility to feed, house, love and "PROTECT" my own.
Criminals are flooding across our borders daily and we seem helpless and incompetent in stopping it. I for one have no sympathy whatsoever for those who would come here illegally and try and take what is not theirs.

A very good anology, 2rugers! The only part I would change is the "take" part. We seem to be, or at least our government seems to be, GIVING to them.

Prayers for the little ones tonight

They [the govt] should be raked over the coals about this and the two border patrol agents who are standing trail for killing a drug dealer. There are a lot of good men out there trying to protect us and they are not even safe from this invasion. They are all here now, with different, socialist cultures not compatible with ours with no desire to assimilate into American culture. We should have gone to the streets along time ago like they are doing now. This is where a Democracy turns into a majority rule nightmare. We should of stayed a republic. If we want to be independent, we best vote independent. Vote all the bums out, and everybody who didn't do their job. We need fresh faces with good hearts.

Point for emphasis: the executive branch of the US gov't does not make laws. The president and his branch can give name to policy and ask the congress to make laws around that policy, but congress makes the laws.

Get the pres. to change his mind, and make sure your own personal representatives know where you stand. Check their records. Yes that will take some time. But it is a lot more effective to vote out the appeasers and vote in the hard liners than it is to sit here on an internet forum and chat about how much you hate illegal immigration.

A disgusting update

According to channel 2 news here in Houston, there are no plans at this time to charge the wife of the shooter, despite the fact that she allowed her convicted felon husband access to her gun.

And worse, there are no plans to charge the employer of the shooter for having employed an illegal alien.

The sound you hear, from wherever you are, is the steam coming out of my ears. Our politically correct DA, who is soooooo anticrime dontcha know, refuses to charge the two people who enabled this loser to be here and to kill a police officer. Gag me. :barf:

It's just a little off topic, but this seems to be the place to throw this out:

Agents battle drug traffickers in border city
By IOAN GRILLO
Associated Press Writer
MEXICO CITY — More than 50 federal agents battled alleged drug traffickers in a shootout in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, officials said Saturday, the latest incident a wave of violence that has sparked criticism from the U.S. government.

Several people were killed in the gunbattle late Friday, said a spokeswoman with the federal attorney general's office. She could not confirm the number and requested anonymity because the agency was waiting to issue a formal statement on the incident.

Officers with the Federal Preventative Police were involved in the shootout, which lasted 40 minutes, according to an official with the agency who also requested anonymity.

On Saturday morning, federal agents in ski masks and body armor and six military Humvees packed with soldiers sealed off the scene of the shootout and refused to let journalists enter.

The soldiers refused to comment or confirm if they had been involved in the shooting.

Residents said they had heard constant gun fire and some shots sounded like they could have come from military-caliber weapons. Several houses on the edge of the scene were riddled with bullet holes.

Nuevo Laredo, across the Rio Grande from Laredo, Texas, has been beset with execution-style killings and shootouts as two drug cartels battle for billion-dollar smuggling routes into the United States.

The bloodshed is part of a wave of drug violence across Mexico this year that has claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people and included beheadings and the assassination of several police chiefs.

On Friday alone, there were a total of 14 drug-related killings in the states of Baja California, Guerrero, Michoacan and Sinaloa as well as the shootout in Nuevo Laredo, Mexican media reported.

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza urged Mexican authorities to try and bring order to the border area and on Thursday Mexican and U.S. officials met in Laredo.

On Friday, President Vicente Fox said that violent crime is worse in the United States than in Mexico, and the U.S. government should focus on its own problems.

Of course, Mr. Fox -- everything is worse in the U.S. than in Mexico.

That is the clear and rational explanation for why so many millions of Americans are sneaking into Mexico to try to earn a living there. :barf:

They keep killing the police chiefs there, but they never make an attempt on Fox. Why is that?...

How tragic...

Not only is he an illegal, he has a long criminal history dating back to 1995, including DWI's,failure to stop and render aid, and also a sexual abuse of a child charge.

It's criminal scumbags both legal and illegal who get away with "no jail time" that sometimes make me wish I could be the Punisher. (Not saying we should all do it, but sometimes I just get that urge as I'm sure we all do when it comes to cirmes as severe as this loser.) Why is it that a guy convicted of DWI, failure to stop and render aid, a child molester, and now a murderer get the slap on the wrist but someone who's just smoking some pot in their own house bothering no one gets 10 years or more in prison?

Epyon

EDIT: Is it just me or should the American people give government the middle finger and just have an all-out militia of armed citizens securing the border against any illegal that walks up to our borders?

The only people who make a racial issue out of this is the pro-ILLEGALS.

I dont care where they came from! They can be latin from Mexico or lilly white from Ireland, if you snuck into the country, i have no sympathy for you in the least.

Just today in the newspaper was a story about an 18 year old kid from China, just as he was about to board a flight deporting him to China, he ran off from the agents and began to bang his head up against the wall till he knocked himself out. Of course this got him sent to a hospital and to make a long story short, he was just given a green card. no joke. i wish it was.

That song is GREAT!

And I'm not usually a country music fan, but that singer is really really GOOD! Has a classical country soundin' voice...

I'm gonna email that link to my northeastern kin. Maybe it'll drive some of the anti-liberal points home to those pinko commies I'm related to...
